Summary: The dynamic thermal rating (DTR) system safely determines the thermal limits of power components based on environmental conditions. However, existing reviews of the DTR system only focus on transmission lines and networks, neglecting the thermal limits of transformers and distribution cables, and have limited research themes. This review article addresses these drawbacks by collecting and categorizing existing research articles, providing a comprehensive summary for prospective researchers of the DTR system.

Summary: This paper investigates the incorporation of dynamic line and transformer ratings (DLR and DTR) into the optimal power flow problem in wind-energy-integrated power systems considering uncertainties. Uncertainty scenarios are generated using the Monte-Carlo method, and a convexification approach is applied to formulate the optimization problem as a mixed-integer quadratically-constrained programming (MIQCP). Experimental results demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed approach in reducing operating costs, minimizing load shedding cost, and maximizing the scheduling of wind power units as sustainable and clean energy resources.

Summary: The integration of wind and solar power into the power system is improved by transmission network expansion. However, the construction of new power lines is often delayed by citizen protests. This study shows that using Dynamic Line Rating (DLR) as an alternative can optimize the existing grid and improve the integration of renewables, resulting in cost savings of up to 5.5% for a fully decarbonized electricity system.

Summary: The novelty of this study lies in proposing a combined operational strategy for a wind-solar-thermal (WST) system with a pumped hydro storage (PHS) facility to address the intermittency of wind and solar power. The study uses an environmental optimal power flow (EOPF) framework to optimize for emission minimization, operating cost reduction, and voltage security maximization. The challenge is to schedule and dispatch electrical power in a hybrid power system (HPS) without violating real-time operational constraints. The study evaluates various hybrid configurations using the particle swarm optimization (PSO) technique and shows that the WST-PHS configuration achieves significant savings in operating cost, emission reduction, and voltage security enhancement compared to other HPS.

Summary: This paper proposes transmission congestion identification and expansion planning methods for power systems with wind power. A wind farm model is established based on the Copula theory to consider wind speed and wind turbine failure uncertainty and correlation. A transmission congestion identification method based on reliability evaluation is proposed, and alternative schemes of expansion planning are determined through probabilistic economic analysis. Case studies on a modified RBTS test system verify the effectiveness of the proposed methods and reveal the impact of wind power location on expansion planning decisions.
