Summary: Although the specific action site and signal pathway of astaxanthin in weight loss remain unclear, this study used Caenorhabditis elegans to shed light on its efficacy and specific action sites. The supplementation of 60 μM astaxanthin significantly reduced fat deposition and triglyceride levels and prevented obesity caused by excessive energy accumulation. These effects were induced by sbp-1/mdt-15 and insulin/insulin-like growth factor pathways, and co-regulated the down-regulation of specific sites fat-6 and fat-7.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effect of Guisangyou tea (GSY tea) on abnormal lipid metabolism in mice with obesity induced by a high-fat diet (HFD). The results showed that GSY tea decreased serum lipid levels, regulated antioxidant enzyme activities and inflammatory factors, and modulated mRNA and protein expression levels related to lipid synthesis and bile acid production in the liver. These findings indicate that GSY tea can improve abnormal lipid metabolism by enhancing antioxidant capacity, regulating inflammation, and modulating lipid synthesis and bile acid production.

Summary: The prevalence of obesity is increasing worldwide and is associated with alterations in health biomarkers. Consuming a 2.5:1 ratio of omega-6 and omega-3 helps restore standard health biomarkers. Hemp seed oil (HSO), with its favorable omega-6:omega-3 ratio, is a promising functional food for mitigating obesity-related injuries.

Summary: This study found that Camellia seed oil can improve dyslipidemia and lipid accumulation in mice fed a high-fat diet through the reorganization of gut microbiota. Camellia oil supplementation regulates the composition and functional profiling of gut microbiota, increases the abundance of beneficial bacteria, and reduces lipid levels in serum and liver. Furthermore, Camellia oil supplementation inhibits the mTOR signaling pathway.

Summary: Butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) is an enzyme found primarily in the liver, plasma, and brain, and it has been recognized for its role in the hydrolysis of choline esters. Recent studies have shown its involvement in lipid metabolism, suggesting it plays a crucial role in maintaining lipid homeostasis. However, the relationship between external factors and BChE activity in lipid metabolic pathways is still complex and requires further investigation.

Summary: TLR3 plays a crucial role in obesity and metabolic disorders, as demonstrated by the protective effects of TLR3 deficiency against high-fat diet-induced obesity, glucose intolerance, insulin resistance, and lipid accumulation. These findings provide new mechanistic links between inflammation and obesity-related metabolic abnormalities in lipid/glucose metabolism.

Summary: This study found that glutamine (Gln) has a positive effect on liver steatosis and promotes hepatic homeostasis by improving glucose metabolism and regulating signaling pathways. Obese mice fed with Gln had higher levels of colonic short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) and lower levels of inflammation factor proteins, and a decrease in the abundance of Firmicutes bacteria was observed.

Summary: Asparagus cochinchinensis, a traditional Chinese medicine, has shown anti-inflammatory properties and the ability to regulate gut microbiota. In a study on obese mice, it was found that the aqueous extract from Asparagus cochinchinensis root (ACE) reduced weight gain and relieved dyslipidemia induced by a high-fat diet. ACE treatment also improved glucose tolerance and insulin resistance, reduced inflammation and lipogenesis in the liver and adipose tissues, and reshaped the gut microbiota of obese mice.

Summary: The study examined the therapeutic potential of beta-glucan (BG) found in mushrooms and cereals against high-fat-diet-induced obesity. Rats were fed a high-fat diet with BG supplementation for 6 weeks, resulting in reduced body weight gain and improved hyperglycemia. BG also mitigated dyslipidemia by regulating the expressions of key markers associated with obesity. The study concluded that BG is a potential candidate for treating high-fat-diet-induced obesity by modulating obesogenic marker expressions, specifically the master regulator PPAR-gamma.
