Summary: There is a need for policy makers in Africa to formulate initiatives to improve the continent's performance in meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This study investigated the role of banks' financial outreach and intermediation in sustainable development in Africa. The findings showed that the impact of financial outreach on sustainable development varied depending on the indicator used. It was also revealed that financial innovation had a negative effect on sustainable development. The study recommends collaboration between governments, policy makers, and financial service providers to ensure fair and flexible loans for marginalized groups and vulnerable businesses.
