Comparison of Telephone and Video Telehealth Consultations: Systematic Review

Patient experience of telephone consultations in gynaecology: a service evaluation

Summary: A survey of patient experience of telephone consultations in gynaecology showed that most patients found the experience to be very good or good, with positive themes including convenience, effectiveness, and equivalent care. Telephone consultations can support patients in communicating intimate symptoms, with menopause, fertility, and endometriosis follow-up clinic patients benefiting the most from telemedicine.

The value of telephone consultations during COVID-19 pandemic. An observational study

Summary: The study revealed that telephone visits during the COVID-19 lockdown performed better than previous in-person visits, showing higher compliance and discharge rates, while also reducing ancillary tests and referrals. Within 30-60 days after the telephone visits, there was a significant reduction in emergency department visits and hospital admissions compared to in-person visits.

Factors affecting patient satisfaction with telephone consultations were identified, and suggestions for future telephone consultations were provided.

Perception of the use of a telephone interpreting service during primary care consultations: A qualitative study with allophone migrants

Summary: This study explored the perceptions and experiences of allophone migrant patients who used a telephone-interpreting service during primary care consultations. The findings identified three themes: the difficulties faced by allophone migrant patients in the primary care pathway, the key role of interpreters in the doctor-patient relationship, and the advantages and limitations of the telephone-interpreting service. The study concluded that telephone-interpreting services can improve communication between allophone migrant patients and doctors, but there may be situations where interpreters need to physically see the patient to better guide the doctor.

Telephone Fracture Clinic Consultations: A Satisfactory Solution in Lockdown

Summary: The study found that during the COVID-19 pandemic, telephone consultations for fracture clinic appointments were well received by patients, with 78% preferring it over in-person visits. Summary: This study aimed to describe the unclassified contents of telephone consultation services provided by a public health center during the first wave of COVID-19 in Japan and examine whether the contents required assistance from public health nurses. The analysis of 207 calls identified common topics such as infection control measures and anxiety about infection. It was suggested that sharing and task-shifting telephone consultation services among public health nurses and other staff could help reduce burden and improve infection control efforts.

Estimating the Effectiveness of First Dose of COVID-19 Vaccine Against Mortality in England: A Quasi-Experimental Study

Implementing the Patient Needs in Asthma Treatment (NEAT) questionnaire in routine care: a qualitative study among patients and health professionals

Summary: This study explored how health professionals evaluate NEAT's utility and the perspectives of patients and professionals on incorporating NEAT into clinical practice. The results showed that health professionals recognized the potential value of using NEAT for clinical decisions but were skeptical about its routine use in outpatient settings due to time constraints. Patients and health professionals both considered NEAT more useful in educational programs such as disease management or pulmonary rehabilitation. In conclusion, the use of NEAT in educational programs is seen as feasible and useful, and further feasibility trials in routine care are needed.

Summary: Pathogenic Escherichia coli can be classified into specific variants (pathovars) based on their behavior and the expression of specific virulence factors. These pathogens interact with CEACAMs through both core elements common to all E. coli and pathovar-specific virulence traits that target the IgV regions of CEACAMs. Recent data suggests that these interactions may not only benefit the pathogen but also provide a mechanism for pathogen elimination.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between reactive symptoms following SARS-CoV-2 vaccination and serologic responses in a population-based sample. The study found that 47.3% of participants experienced systemic reactive symptoms after vaccination. Older age, male sex, and mRNA vaccine type were associated with a lower risk of such symptoms. Participants who experienced reactive symptoms had higher levels of antibodies.

Vitamin D for the management of asthma

Summary: This article reviews the role of vitamin D in reducing the risk of asthma exacerbation and improving asthma symptom control.
