Summary: This meta-analysis aims to clarify the relationship between serum lipid levels and the risk of colorectal cancer (CRC) by analyzing published prospective studies. The results indicate that high triglyceride (TG) and total cholesterol (TC) levels are positively associated with the incidence rate of CRC, while high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels are negatively associated with CRC incidence rate. However, no significant association was observed between low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and the risk of developing CRC.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the correlation between serum laminin (LN) levels and clinical stages of heart failure in patients with chronic heart failure. The results showed that serum LN levels in patients with chronic heart failure were significantly increased and independently correlated with the clinical stages of heart failure. Therefore, serum LN levels could potentially serve as an early warning index of the progression and severity of heart failure.

Summary: The meta-analysis found a significant association between low serum zinc levels and the occurrence of RAS. Subgroup analysis by geographic distribution showed that the association was significant in both Chinese and other populations, with a more pronounced effect in the Chinese subgroup. Trial sequential analysis confirmed the reliability of the results, while also encouraging further large-scale studies of high quality.

Summary: This study evaluated the association between serum galectin-3 and all-cause death (ACD) and cardiovascular death (CVD) in patients with chronic heart failure (CHF). The results showed that higher serum galectin-3 levels were associated with an increased risk of ACD and CVD in CHF patients. Subgroup analysis revealed that the risk was higher in the shorter follow-up group. These findings suggest that serum galectin-3 may have prognostic value and could be useful for risk classification in CHF patients.

Summary: This study aims to examine whether adherence to ideal cardiovascular health (CVH) can mitigate the genetic risk of coronary artery disease (CAD) in non-European populations. The results showed that individuals with a favourable CVH profile demonstrated similar relative effects across Polygenic Risk Score (PRS) categories, reducing the CAD relative risk by a similar magnitude. Individuals with high PRS achieved the greatest benefit from favourable CVH, mitigating the risk to the average level of the population. Attaining favourable CVH should be encouraged for all individuals, especially those with high genetic susceptibility.

Summary: This paper proposes a prediction method based on a back adoptive adjustment transfer learning scheme for the degradation prediction of dry-type transformers. By constructing a deep neural network, a transfer learning module, and a back adjustment module, it can extract features, adapt to different domains, and optimize the prediction network, thereby improving prediction accuracy and addressing the problems and drawbacks of traditional methods. The proposed method also exhibits strong portability and application potential.

Summary: The construction of all-carbon quaternary stereocenters has attracted significant attention in catalytic asymmetric reactions. This study presents a rare and challenging asymmetric multi-component reaction that builds two C-C bonds on the same carbonic center to form quaternary stereocenters. The reaction is achieved through dirhodium/chiral phosphoric acid cooperative catalysis and provides a practical and atom-economic synthesis of poly-functionalized chiral ketones in good to high yields and excellent enantioselectivities. It offers an unprecedented gem-dialkylation process, which complements previous methods for constructing tertiary and quaternary stereocenters and utilizes readily available starting materials.

Summary: In this study, an intelligent optimization method integrating the BIM-DB and PSO-RF-NSGA-III methods was established for the energy saving design and optimization of near-zero-energy-consumption buildings (NZEBs). The method was applied to explore multiobjective optimization problems in four typical climate regions in China. The results showed that the PSO-RF algorithm efficiently predicted building energy consumption, carbon emissions, and thermal comfort. After optimization, the energy consumption levels in the four regions were reduced by 39.72%, 32.22%, 26.94%, and 35.37%, respectively, and other goals were also optimized. The optimized building design parameters met the standards for NZEBs, with varying influencing factors and measures across different regions.

Summary: We aim to enhance the ability of coupled phase oscillators to maintain synchronization under stochastic disturbances by proposing an optimization method. We model the disturbances as Gaussian noise and measure synchronization stability using mean first hitting time. The optimization method increases the mean first hitting time and identifies vulnerable edges in the system, increasing synchronization stability.

Summary: The high transmissibility of SARS-CoV-2 Omicron subvariants is attributed to immune escape. BA.5 showed significantly increased replicative capacity and infectivity in human respiratory epithelial cells. BA.5 has a higher entry efficiency and fusogenic activity, promoting viral spread through syncytium formation in the airway epithelium, while its replicative capacity in alveolar cells is attenuated, which may explain its milder clinical manifestation.

Summary: This paper proposes a decision-making approach based on the triple bottom line concept to evaluate the sustainability of demand-oriented biogas supply programs. An indicator system is developed, with parameters quantified through emergy analysis, economic benefit assessment, and a social risk accounting method. The Charnes-Cooper-Wei-Huang model is used to calculate comprehensive sustainability, considering economic, environmental, and social indicators. The evaluation results show that the scenario of supplying real-time varying power demand using straw and livestock manure has the highest sustainability score in this case study. Managerial implications are proposed based on the results.

Summary: Previous studies have found that high uric acid (UA) is associated with enhanced patient function. This study aims to clarify the relationship between UA and cognitive impairment in patients with schizophrenia (SCZ) and explore whether UA could be used as a potential biological marker of cognition in SCZ during maintenance period. The results showed that UA is positively associated with cognitive function, and high UA is associated with enhanced cognition in patients with low anticholinergic cognitive burden (ACB).

The strategy is experimentally verified by demonstrating a second-order exceptional surface-tailored microlaser and further discussed for potential applications. Summary: The key idea of this paper is that under the goal of carbon emissions peak and carbon neutrality, virtual power plants (VPPs) are significant in improving grid safety and promoting clean, low-carbon energy transition. However, the intermittent output of renewable energy and the heat-based operation of combined heat and power (CHP) units in winter heating areas contradict each other and affect the peak-load regulating capacity of VPPs, leading to high carbon emissions. To solve this problem, the paper proposes a multi-level games optimal scheduling strategy of multiple VPPs considering carbon emission flow and carbon trade.

Summary: The pulse detonation turbine engine (PDTE) has the potential performance advantage, but the unsteadiness and flow losses during detonation severely limit engine performance. Adjusting the detonation initial conditions could greatly improve the performance of the PDTE. This paper numerically investigates the performance of the PDTE with different hydrogen-air mixture equivalence ratios and initial temperatures, and analyzes the turbine efficiency and PDC combustion efficiency to provide guidance for thermal efficiency analysis.
