Summary: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a common chronic liver disorder. The expression of IRG1 was downregulated in obesity-associated fatty liver, but its potential role in NAFLD development was unknown. This study showed that genetic deletion of IRG1 aggravated metabolic disturbance and liver steatosis induced by high fat diet. Mechanistically, IRG1 deficiency suppressed AKT activation.
