Summary: In this study, a rapid and user-friendly dot-blot assay for the detection of ochratoxin A was developed using peptide conjugated gold nanoparticles as a detection agent. The assay exhibited high binding affinity towards ochratoxin A and had a low limit of detection. The dot-blot assay showed comparable results with the conventional high performance liquid chromatography in the detection of ochratoxin A in wheat samples. This portable and easy-to-use assay has the potential for application at different stages of food production and distribution to ensure safe and healthy food.

Summary: The illicit use of AAS as performance-enhancing drugs poses a threat to both competitive sports and public health. Current detection methods are limited to laboratory settings and cannot be performed on-site. However, the development of aptamer technology offers the potential for simple and cost-effective on-site analysis. In this study, a label-free colorimetric assay was developed using aptamers to detect the abuse of AAS.

Summary: Novel immunochromatographic test strips (ICSs) based on dual gold nanoparticle signal amplification (Duo-ICS) and selenium nanoparticles (Se-ICS) were developed for rapid detection of T-2 mycotoxin. The Duo-ICS and Se-ICS assays showed 3-fold and 15-fold higher sensitivity, respectively, compared to conventional ICS. Furthermore, these ICSs were successfully applied for T-2 detection in cereals.

Summary: This paper presents a simple strategy for bacterial identification using the optical properties of polymer-coated metal nanoparticles. The study demonstrates that nanohybrid structures (NHs) can be used as optical markers based on their strong scattered light. The color of the scattered light can identify different bacterial species, making it a useful development for safety risk assessments and environmental surveys.
