Cardiac rehabilitation, physical activity, and the effectiveness of activity monitoring devices on cardiovascular patients: an umbrella review of systematic reviews

Hila Ariela Dafny, Stephanie Champion, Lemlem G. Gebremichael, Vincent Pearson, Jeroen M. Hendriks, Robyn A. Clark, Maria Alejandra Pinero de Plaza, Aarti Gulyani, Sonia Hines, Alline Beleigoli

Summary: This study aims to consolidate the evidence on the effectiveness of activity-monitoring devices and mobile applications on physical activity and health outcomes of patients with cardiovascular disease attending cardiac rehabilitation programs. The findings from systematic reviews and meta-analyses suggest that the use of these devices and applications can increase activity levels, improve behavioral habits, and reduce clinical indicators among cardiac rehabilitation patients, although the clinical benefits are limited. Overall, these devices and applications are effective in improving outcomes for cardiac rehabilitation patients.

Effectiveness of telehealth versus standard care on health care utilization, health-related quality of life, and well-being in homebound populations: a systematic review protocol

Maria Alejandra Pinero de Plaza, Alline Beleigoli, Shannon Brown, Lemma N. Bulto, Lemlem G. Gebremichael, Katie Nesbitt, Matthew Tieu, Vincent Pearson, Sara Noonan, Penelope McMillan, Robyn A. Clark, Sonia Hines, Alison Kitson, Stephanie Champion, Hila Dafny, Jeroen M. Hendriks

Summary: The objective of this review is to assess the effectiveness of telehealth compared to in-person care on health care utilization, health-related quality of life, and well-being in homebound populations. With an increasing number of people becoming homebound, they are facing social isolation and deteriorating well-being. Studies and reports suggest that providing telehealth solutions may benefit these individuals by addressing their healthcare needs and preventing serious health issues.
