Summary: The study showed that sealing plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) coatings on AZ91 Mg alloy in calcium nitrate solutions at different pH values can enhance the corrosion resistance of the coatings. Adding SDS facilitates the formation of precipitates, resulting in hydrophobic coatings with poorer paint adhesion but better corrosion resistance.

Summary: By using the PEO process in galvanostatic mode, magnesium oxide coatings (up to 182 μm) were successfully produced on AZ63 alloy. XRD, XPS, and SEM were used to evaluate the coatings' structure, chemical composition, and morphology. The results showed that mixed-crystalline magnesium oxide formed porous PEO layers with increased hardness and improved corrosion resistance on pure AZ63 alloy, with values of 26.9 GPa and 2.0 μA/cm2 indicating noticeable performance characteristics.

Summary: The addition of Cr nanoparticles to the PEO electrolyte improves the properties and coating composition of the layers. By incorporating Cr nanoparticles into PEO-coated Mg alloy, the effects of nanoparticles and different voltages on coating formation, microscopic morphology, and phase composition were investigated. The results showed significant improvement in corrosion resistance when the final voltage was set to 460 V and the concentration of Cr nanoparticles was 1 g/L. The presence of oxidized Cr nanoparticles increased the growth rate of the coating and sealed its open pores, resulting in improved corrosion resistance.

Summary: In this research, plasma electrolytic oxidation coatings were prepared on AZ31 Mg alloy using bipolar and soft sparking waveforms. The coatings displayed a net-like surface morphology and showed enhanced corrosion resistance due to the incorporation of TiO2 colloidal particles and the cathodic pulse repair effect.

Summary: The PEO treatment time affects the thickness and surface morphology of the plasma electrolytic oxidation coating, but does not significantly affect the phase composition. The additional addition of anatase particles can increase the amount of anatase in the coatings, but has minor effect on corrosion resistance while reducing wear resistance remarkably.

Summary: The incorporation of TiC NPs significantly improved the hardness, effective elastic modulus, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance of the oxide layer, while also increasing the layer thickness. This enhancement was attributed to the chemically inert incorporation of particles and an increase in layer crystallinity.

Summary: This study achieved in-situ incorporation of layered double hydroxides (LDH) nanocontainers into plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) coatings on AZ91 Mg alloy. Fumarate was selected as the Mg corrosion inhibitor for exchange and intercalation into the nanocontainers, which were then incorporated into the coating. It was found that the presence of LDH nanocontainers increased the thickness and compactness of the coatings. The corrosion resistance of the coatings was greatly enhanced and stabilized by the loaded inhibitor and nanocontainers through ion-exchange when corrosion occurred.

Summary: This study aimed to enhance the anti-corrosion and tribological properties of plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) coating by introducing fluorinated graphene (FG) nanoparticles. The addition of FG improved the corrosion resistance and wear resistance of the PEO coating significantly. This improvement can be attributed to the reduction in porosity and roughness, enhanced compactness, and the formation of corrosion-resistant component MgF2 in the coating. Moreover, the excellent mechanical and lubricating properties of FG contributed to the coating's excellent tribological performance.
