Summary: This study found that the simultaneous increase in ammonium and CO2 provides cyanobacteria with greater advantages and may exacerbate cyanobacterial blooms in aquatic ecosystems. Under light conditions of 80 mu mol photons/m(2)/s, elevated CO2 can reduce intracellular reactive oxygen species, leading to increased cell density and chlorophyll a content. However, under light conditions of 200 mu mol photons/m(2)/s, elevated CO2 concentration affects NO3--grown cyanobacteria, suppressing their growth.

Summary: In this study, an integrated cathodic nitrate reduction and anodic sulfite oxidation system was proposed. Under the optimal operating parameters, the nitrate reduction rate reached 93.26% within 1 h and the sulfite oxidation rate reached 94.64%. Compared with the separate system, the integrated system showed a significant synergistic effect.

Summary: The research found that by reacting sulfite with oxidized pyrite, radicals can be effectively generated to degrade dye wastewater, especially achieving high-efficiency removal of dyes in a wide pH range. Furthermore, sulfite is mainly activated by dissolved iron, with surface Fe(iii) acting as the main activation site.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the influence of ammonium nitrate produced by ozone denitrification on the crystallisation process of ammonium sulfate, a by-product of ammonia desulfurisation. The study used a laser method to examine the impact of ammonium nitrate on the solubility and metastable zone width of ammonium sulfate. Through scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction, the study explored the influence mechanism and found that the addition of ammonium nitrate affected the size, aspect ratio, dissolution, and crystallinity of ammonium sulfate crystals. The findings provide valuable insights for optimizing the crystallisation process and improving the quality of ammonium sulfate in ammonia desulfurisation.

Summary: A novel photochemical denitrification process was proposed to effectively reduce nitrate to N-2 with nearly 100% denitrification efficiency. Experimental and theoretical calculations confirmed hydrated electron (e(aq)(-)) as the main reactive species for rapid removal of nitrate and nitrite. The high dispersion of e(aq)(-) in water and the rapid reaction rate contributed to the high selectivity of N-2, making the process promising for practical wastewater treatment.

Summary: In this study, nZVI/LDH composites were prepared by loading nano zero-valent iron (nZVI) on layered double hydroxide (LDH) surface for adsorption coupled reduction of nitrate (NO3--N). The composites exhibited high removal efficiency for NO3--N and maintained good performance in natural water, indicating great potential for nitrate removal in micro-polluted water.

Summary: This study fabricates nitrogen-doped porous carbon coembedded with lanthanum and cobalt (La-Co@NPC) as a dual-functional catalyst for sulfite oxidation and arsenic removal in the desulfurization process. The La-Co@NPC/S(IV) catalytic system generates strongly oxidizing free radicals for sulfite oxidation and oxidizes As(III) into As(V). The results show high efficiency in ammonium sulfite oxidation and arsenic removal, making it significant for the high-value recovery of sulfur resources in coal-fired desulfurization.
