Summary: The study found that the BOOST program significantly improved mobility for older adults with neurogenic claudication. However, there was no significant difference in Oswestry Disability Index scores between the BOOST program and best practice advice at 12 months. The BOOST program showed better results in walking capacity and reducing falls risk.

Summary: The study found that expectations from patients, families, and clinicians shape roles in in-hospital mobility, while the stakeholders' roles in mobility depend on the hospital environment, infrastructure, culture, and resources; teamwork is crucial for successful in-hospital mobility, but lack of coordination and cooperation can lead to delays in mobilizing.

Summary: The recent literature has focused on the post-acute care needs of cancer patients in the acute inpatient rehabilitation setting, with a particular emphasis on the neurologic cancer population. Recent trends in inpatient cancer rehabilitation show lower admission functional status and shorter lengths of stay, but a high percentage of patients are still discharged to the community.

Summary: This study explored the preferences of primary care providers (PCPs) for dementia care training programs. Qualitative interviews revealed that PCPs had various preferences regarding participation in training, content and materials, duration and timing of training, and modality of training sessions. The findings can inform the development and refinement of dementia training programs to optimize their implementation and success.

Summary: Patients strongly prefer transparent disclosure in cases of medical errors, whether they are discovered by the physician themselves or in an IMED situation. They express a desire for understanding their own health conditions, practicing honesty and transparency by physicians, and participating in future treatments with informed decisions.

Summary: The national system of Medical Examiners in England and Wales implemented in April 2019 aimed to ensure scrutiny of every death by an independent senior doctor, leading to early detection of care problems. This study found that core components of the ME role were being carried out, with variations identified in practice. The discussion with bereaved relatives was considered highly valuable, and future development should address feedback mechanisms and shared learning opportunities.

Summary: This study systematically reviewed the impact of core stability exercises in addition to usual care physiotherapy on patient outcomes after stroke. The findings suggest that incorporating core stability exercises may lead to improved trunk control, dynamic balance, and walking speed in individuals with acute and chronic stroke.

Summary: This study evaluated the performance of physical therapy for total knee arthroplasty patients on post-operative day 0 and found that undergoing physical therapy at this stage was associated with shorter hospital stay and increased likelihood of discharge to home. Patients who walked more than 10 feet on post-operative day 0 or 100 feet on post-operative day 1 were more likely to have better short-term outcomes. Late arrival to the inpatient floor was strongly associated with inability to perform physical therapy.

Summary: This qualitative study explored race differences in the rehabilitation experience and satisfaction following total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The results showed that individuals undergoing TKA generally had positive rehabilitation experiences, but barriers to accessing physical therapy existed, with potential differences between Black and White patients. Physical therapists should be aware of these barriers and work to minimize them whenever possible.

Summary: This observational cohort study examined race differences in physical therapy utilization and patient-reported physical function following total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Results showed similar total physical therapy received between White and Black participants, but significant differences in utilization within specific settings. While race did not significantly predict postoperative function, Black participants reported slightly lower function compared to White participants before and after surgery.

Summary: Rehabilitation research aims to determine the components of treatment intervention, understand the mechanism of recovery and rehabilitation, and identify optimal strategies to enhance patients' physical, psychological, and social functioning. Observational studies using Electronic Health Records (EHRs) have advantages over traditional clinical trials in terms of cost and efficiency. To support these studies, we developed a clinical research datamart named ReDWINE that transforms rehabilitation-related EHR data into a standardized format, facilitating data pooling, analysis, and visualization for robust research findings.
