Summary: In recent years, chalcogenido metalate compounds based on tetrahedral clusters have been extensively studied due to their rich structural chemistry and uncommon chemical and physical properties. This study expands the mild alkylation approach and successfully achieves selective propylation, pentylation, and hexylation of sulfido-oxo stannate clusters. The effect of the organic groups attached to the cluster and present in the counterions of the products on the compounds' structural and opto-electronic properties is discussed. Well-soluble cluster salts [Sn10O4S16(SR)4]4- (R = propyl, pentyl, hexyl) are obtained from the treatment of Na4[SnS4]·14H2O with symmetrically bis-alkyl-functionalized imidazolium-based ionic liquids.

Summary: This work presents the synthesis of formo-phenolic resins containing CAM moieties combined with phenol, catechol or resorcinol. These chelating resins have been developed for selective extraction of U(VI) from seawater, which poses challenges due to its high pH and abundant alkaline and earth-alkaline cations. Results from sorption experiments show that the synthesized resins exhibit good sorbent properties for U(VI), with a maximum uptake capacity of about 50 mg/g and pronounced selectivity for uranium even in saline conditions. Thermodynamic and kinetic adsorption data were determined using Langmuir adsorption model and pseudo-second order model for the best resin.

Summary: Ultra/nano filtration (UF/NF) is an effective method for ion separation in aqueous solution through the electric and steric effect. The extraction of uranium from unconventional resources like seawaters is important for nuclear fuel production. Commercial inorganic UF/NF membranes have been investigated for the separation of uranium from other salts in natural or synthetic seawaters and freshwaters. Various physical-chemical parameters influence the rejection of different metal ions, and speciation diagrams help understand the rejection mechanism. The study examines the electric effect of UF/NF membranes for solution species rejection and demonstrates the potential for uranium concentration.

Summary: This study focuses on the recovery of sinapic acid using liquid-liquid extraction assisted by a hollow fiber membrane contactor from an aqueous feed obtained through the hydrolysis of mustard bran. The screening of solvents of different chemical nature showed that all tested solvents had an extraction efficiency of more than 80% for pH < 5. Four solvents were selected for use in the hollow fiber membrane contactor, and the volatile solvents showed higher mass transfer coefficients compared to non-volatile solvents. The extraction efficiency was intensified by increasing the initial concentration of sinapic acid and the feed-to-solvent ratio. CPME was found to have optimal recovery efficiency at a phase ratio of 8:1, yielding 0.9 g of sinapic acid per liter of CPME used.

Summary: In this study, sludge-derived biochar (SBC) was functionalized with various iron salts to enhance its adsorption ability for sulfamethoxazole (SMX) and magnetic collection performance. Ball milling was further employed to treat the optimal iron salt functionalized SBC (MSBC), resulting in ball milled SBC (BMSBC) with improved adsorption performance for SMX. The dominant driving mechanism for SMX adsorption onto BMSBC was confirmed to be multiple physicochemical forces, including 7C-7C conjugation, pore filling, H-bonding, Fe-O complexation, and electrostatic interactions. BMSBC exhibited favorable adsorption ability for SMX in actual waters and could be easily collected within 1 min due to its magnetic sensitivity.
