Summary: In this study, two pyridylhydrazone-tethered BODIPY compounds were synthesized and characterized. These compounds have the ability to selectively detect hypochlorous acid (HOCl) through a fluorescence turn-on mechanism. In cell imaging experiments, they showed excellent biocompatibility and visualization of endogenous HOCl in living cells.

Summary: This study designs and synthesizes a 2,6-substituted BODIPY molecule, LM-BDP, as a fluorescent probe for detecting S2- in aqueous media. The electronic and crystal structures of the probe are studied using density functional theory (DFT) calculations and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Spectroscopy investigations show that LM-BDP exhibits a noticeable color change from pink to dark red and a fluorescence shift from yellow to pink channel with decreased intensity upon addition of S2-. The probe shows high selectivity and sensitivity with a detection limit of 0.29μM in less than 100 s, and it demonstrates significant fluorescence contrast in test-stripe and RAW 264.7 cell experiments, making it a suitable candidate for detecting exogenous S2-.

Summary: This study reports the design, synthesis, and application of a highly solvatochromic coumarin derivative (compound 1) for water detection. The solvatochromism of compound 1 is attributed to the presence of an electron-withdrawing aldehyde substituent and an electron-donating diethylamino group. Compound 1 shows significant fluorescence responsiveness to polar protic solvents, especially with a pronounced decrease in fluorescence upon the addition of small amounts of water. This water-based responsiveness is utilized in the development of a fluorescent water sensor with rapid, sensitive, and irreversible fluorescence quenching to both liquid water and water vapor.

Summary: In this study, two novel coumarin-based thiosemicarbazone sensors were developed for anionic detection. Structural analysis of the sensors was conducted using NMR, CHN analysis, UV-Visible spectroscopy, and fluorescence emission spectroscopy. The sensors exhibited visible color changes from colorless to yellow, indicating their ability to detect anions. These sensors hold potential for daily life applications, such as test strips and detecting F- ions in toothpaste samples.

Summary: A new coumarin-based cyclotetraphosphazene molecule (OCCTP) has been designed and synthesized, which exhibits fluorescence and chemosensory properties. The solid state structure and geometry of compound 4 were determined using crystal X-ray structural analysis. The photophysical and chemosensory properties of OCCTP were investigated, and it was found to be a Turn-Off fluorescent chemosensor for Fe3+ ions. The newly synthesized OCCTP compound can serve as a reversible, highly selective, and sensitive fluorescent chemosensor for Fe3+ ions.
