Summary: This study found that patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) have a higher mortality rate compared to the general population, and healthy individuals carrying the HLA-B27 gene also have a similar risk. Additionally, female patients have a lower life expectancy. However, in the overall European population, the presence of the HLA-B27 gene does not affect survival or the risk of death from cardiovascular disease.

Summary: Axial spondyloarthritis is a chronic inflammatory disease primarily affecting the axial skeleton, leading to symptoms such as chronic back pain and spinal stiffness. Diagnosis relies on recognizing clinical patterns and utilizing clinical, laboratory, and imaging features. Treatment options include non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs as first-line therapy, with biologics as a second-line option, showing efficacy in improving disease symptoms.

Summary: Diffuse Idiopathic Skeletal Hyperostosis (DISH) is considered a metabolic condition with possible involvement of inflammation as a non-metabolic mechanism. Inflammation may play a role in promoting new bone formation in DISH, and further research is needed to better understand the mechanisms for early detection and management.

Summary: The study aimed to analyze the frequency and factors associated with acute anterior uveitis (AAU) in different forms of Spondyloarthritis (SpA) in a large Turkish cohort. It was found that older age, smoking history, delayed diagnosis, longer disease duration, arthritis, positive HLA-B27, family history of SpA, and radiographic damage were associated with a higher prevalence of uveitis in SpA patients. Psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis patients had a lower prevalence of uveitis. Early detection of uveitis can aid in the diagnosis of SpA.

Summary: This study developed a consensual definition for 'early axial spondyloarthritis-axSpA' and 'early peripheral spondyloarthritis-pSpA' through a systematic literature review and Delphi survey. The results indicated that early axSpA should be based on symptom duration only, without considering the presence of radiographic damage.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the efficacy of an IL17A peptide-based vaccine on SpA manifestations in model rats. The results showed that the IL17A peptide-based vaccine successfully induced antibody production and suppressed the arthritis score and joint thickness. It also inhibited enthesitis, bone destruction, and new bone formation. The study suggests that the IL17A peptide-based vaccine may be a therapeutic option for SpA treatment.

Summary: The study investigated the relationship between changes in CRP levels and spinal radiographic progression in patients with radiographic axial spondyloarthritis. Controlled CRP levels after 3 months of initial non-biologic treatment were significantly associated with a slower rate of spinal radiographic change. CRP levels at 3 months may be a good predictor of radiographic progression in these patients.

The results showed that HLA-B27-positive patients had an earlier disease onset and higher axial involvement, tarsitis, and uveitis, but no association with other EMM, fibromyalgia, or peripheral structural damage was observed.

Summary: This study found a significantly increased aortic root index in HLA-B27 positive AS patients compared to HLA-B27 negative patients, especially in male patients. However, there was no difference in the prevalence of aortic valve regurgitation between the two groups. Echocardiographic monitoring in elderly male HLA-B27 positive AS patients may be considered due to the progressive nature of aortic valve regurgitation.

Summary: Female AS patients demonstrate lower response to TNFi and higher disease activity compared to men over a 5-year period, despite no sex differences in mean ASDAS-CRP levels. Adjusted BASDAI models over 5 years show that women have a 0.6 point higher BASDAI score than men. Numerically, more women than men discontinue treatment over a 5-year period.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate pre-hospital triage and decision-making in patients who died within 30 days post-trauma. The results showed that approximately 14% of severely injured patients were undertriaged and could have benefited from treatment at a level-I trauma center. Improving pre-hospital triage is necessary to increase future patients' chances of survival.

By quantitatively analyzing CT images, it was found that women had smaller airway lumen sizes than men after accounting for height and lung size, which contributed to the differences in clinical outcomes and survival rates between genders in COPD.

Summary: The study aims to examine the prevalence of hip involvement in patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) treated with tumor necrosis factor inhibitors (TNFi) and estimate the effect of TNFi on radiographic progression of hip involvement compared to the spine. The results showed that approximately one-third of AS patients had hip involvement, which seemed to stabilize with TNFi treatment. There were no sex differences in the prevalence or progression of this manifestation.

Summary: This systematic review aims to gather evidence on sex-specific differences in clinical characteristics, disease activity, and patient-reported outcomes in Psoriatic Arthritis (PsA). The review indicates that women have higher rates of peripheral disease, including tender joint counts, while men have more severe axial disease and greater skin disease burden. Women also have poorer scores in PROs, including pain and fatigue, and show worse responses to treatment measured by outcomes such as ACR responses and minimal disease activity.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the influence of intoxication on pre-hospital recognition of severely head-injured patients by EMS professionals and the relationship between suspected alcohol intoxication and severe head injury. The results showed that severe head injuries were difficult to recognize in the field, especially in patients with a GCS greater than or equal to 13. Patients suspected to be intoxicated had a higher chance of suffering from severe head injury but were recognized less frequently.
