In the past few decades, an interest in reverse logistics has attracted the attention of industries and also has become a subject of interest for researchers. However, while reverse logistics is becoming a mandatory element of the supply chain in developed countries particularly due to legislation issues, the subject is still in a state of infancy in emerging economies such as Brazil. In these connections, impediments to reverse logistics implementation must be considered and analyzed, as well as the many different perspectives from the key stakeholders for their development. The objective of this research is to evaluate the interrelationship among reverse logistics barriers from the perspectives of the most important stakeholders in the Brazilian context. For this purpose, a Multi-Criteria Decision Making tool named grey-based Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (grey-DEMATEL) was used to extract a multiple company-customer-government association perspective. Three respondents - one expert from each stakeholder - have been consulted to obtain the pair-wise comparison of barriers. Thus, both the net effect and the importance level of each impediment are provided by means of a Euclidean distance analysis, as well as the similarities and differences among stakeholders' opinions. The uniqueness of this paper relies on the fact that no previous work was found in the domain of multiple stakeholders' perspective for reverse logistics barriers. This research uncovers that most of the key barriers from the reverse logistics multiple perspectives framework are from the organizational point of view. This stakeholder holds 10 out of 13 key barriers for RL implementation; as such, it is an important outcome because it indicates that firms may begin product return implementation by first tackling key internal barriers. Moreover, knowing the influential factors in their environment may assist industry managers to better implement and manage reverse flows, and to see through current and future green solutions for reverse logistics. Zahra Alidoosti, Ahmad Sadegheih, Kannan Govindan, Mir Saman Pishvaee

Summary: In a circular economy, municipal solid waste will be used as a resource, requiring the design of a product-oriented waste management network. The production of diverse bioenergies is crucial, making it necessary to study the waste management network. A sustainable waste management network was designed to extract various bioenergies, considering economic, environmental, and social sustainability under uncertain conditions. The proposed model used a multi-objective possibilistic mixed-integer non-linear programming approach and interactive fuzzy programming methods to handle uncertainty.

Coordination in a closed-loop sustainable supply chain considering dual-channel and cost-sharing contract: Evidence from an emerging economy

Hannan Amoozad Mahdiraji, Kannan Govindan, Saba Madadi, Jose Arturo Garza-Reyes

Summary: This article applies a game-theoretic approach to find the optimal economic and environmentally sustainable solutions in a two-level closed-loop supply chain with both a traditional retailer channel and an online manufacturer channel. The study finds that the manufacturer-leader Stackelberg strategy leads to the lowest profit for the supply chain, while the Nash strategy where the retailer participates in remanufacturing costs achieves both economic and environmentally sustainable goals.

Alliance strategy in an online retailing supply chain: Motivation, choice, and equilibrium

Summary: This paper investigates the alliance strategy in an Online Retailing Supply Chain (ORSC) by building and examining different alliance models. The optimal alliance strategy and final alliance equilibrium are identified. The results show that the manufacturer always has motivations to form alliances, while the retailer and the platform may form alliances only when the agency rate is relatively low. The study also finds that different alliance models can lead to win-win or lose-lose situations, depending on channel competition and the agency rate.

Summary: This study aims to extend the UTAUT model by combining it with perceived collaborative advantage, organizational inertia, and perceived cost. The findings reveal that performance expectancy, perceived collaborative advantage, effort expectancy, social influence, and facilitating conditions have a strong positive impact on the behavioral intention to adopt IoT for the digital transformation of the F&BI. The study also suggests that age and voluntariness significantly moderate most of the relationships, while gender is an insignificant moderator.

Summary: This paper proposes a bi-objective model for designing and optimizing a sustainable hierarchical multi-modal hub network, considering economic, environmental, and social aspects. The proposed model is validated using the case of a Turkish freight transportation network. Two multi-objective genetic algorithms (NSGA-II and NRGA) incorporating LP solving and Dijkstra algorithm are introduced, and the superiority of NRGA in terms of solution time is demonstrated. Additionally, alternative formulations and exact methods are utilized to find Pareto-optimal solutions, with the performance of AUGMECON2 shown to be superior based on multi-objective indicators.

Summary: This study aims to examine the impact of government regulations on eco-labeling choices in a competitive market. The findings show that industry-set eco-labels are economically optimal for green firms, but self-set labels can be a viable option if they are credible. Government-set eco-labels are superior in terms of social benefits, but do not benefit firms' profits. The study also suggests that eco-label credibility and subsidies can enhance economic and social benefits, while consumer preference and environmental taxes have varying effects.

Spillover effects of live streaming selling in a dual-channel supply chain

Wenting Yang, Kannan Govindan, Jiantong Zhang

Summary: Live streaming selling is an emerging business mode that utilizes cooperation between e-commerce supply chain members and key opinion leaders (KOLs) to promote sales. This study examines the impact of spillover effects and consumer acceptance on the equilibrium outcomes for two sellers under different scenarios, revealing that manufacturers tend to benefit more from cooperating with KOLs, while e-retailers have more options. Numerical studies also suggest that a win-win situation can be achieved when manufacturers and e-retailers simultaneously collaborate with KOLs.

Unveiling the economic and environmental impact of policies to promote animal feed for a circular food system

Alessandro Gatto, Marijke Kuiper, Corina van Middelaar, Hans van Meijl

Summary: This study examines the economic and environmental effects of transitioning towards more circular food systems in the European Union (EU27) by feeding animals with low-opportunity-cost feed and better utilizing local feed resources. The results show that providing subsidies for circularity and promoting the use of low-cost feed can increase animal production, but also have negative impacts on land use and emissions. On the other hand, promoting domestic feed sourcing through import tariffs can decrease animal production and greenhouse gas emissions in agriculture. However, complementary policies are needed to mitigate drawbacks and enhance benefits of a more circular agri-food system.
