Three new barium(II)-cucurbit[6]uril complexes were synthesized by heating a mixture of aqueous BaCl2 center dot nH(2)O solution, cucurbit[6]uril (CB[6]) and terephthalic acid (H(2)bdc) in the presence of NEt3. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction revealed the polymeric nature of the complexes with the two-dimensional structure [Ba-2(bdc)CB[6](H2O)(6)]bdc center dot 12H(2)O (1), one-dimensional structure [Ba-2(mu-OH)(2)(H2O)(6)CB [6]](bdc)center dot 19H(2)O (2) and the molecular sandwich structure of [Ba-2(mu-H2O)(4)(H2O)(4)(dmf)(2)(CB[6])(2)][Ba (bdc)(H2O)(5)](2)(bdc)(2)center dot 0.5H(2)bdc-25H(2)O (3). All the complexes have been characterized by elemental, XRD, IR, TG and fluorescent analyses. (C) 2018 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
