Summary: This review aims to summarize the prevalence of medication adherence (MA) among adult recipients of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) and the tools used to measure it. It also examines factors affecting medication non-adherence (MNA), interventions promoting MA, and the clinical outcomes of MNA. The review found that MA is still an issue among these patients, with suboptimal prevalence rates. Subjective measures have been most commonly used to evaluate MA. Younger age, higher psychosocial risk, daily immunosuppressors, decreased concomitant therapies, and experiencing more side effects are among the factors affecting MNA. The review suggests the need for multidisciplinary care models and further research on risk factors and interventions.

Summary: This systematic review found that interactive eHealth interventions are effective in improving medication adherence, especially when using methods such as SMS, interactive voice response, mobile apps, and calls for providing adherence tele-feedback. Strategies such as teaching medication management skills, coordinating medication adherence care between professionals, and facilitating communication between patients and health care providers have shown strong evidence for a positive effect on medication adherence.

Summary: This review investigates the effects of eHealth interventions on medication adherence in patients with COPD or asthma. The results show mixed effects, possibly due to the type, context, and intensity of the interventions, as well as differences in the operationalization and measurement of adherence outcomes. Further research is needed to fully understand the potential of eHealth in optimizing treatment adherence for COPD and asthma.

Summary: There is a lack of research on the content and quality of health apps in the growing digital healthcare market in Korea. This study used the Mobile App Rating Scale to evaluate medication management apps and identified the importance of quality control, continuous maintenance, and collaboration with health professionals. The findings emphasize the need for effective medication adherence and integration of updated technology.

Summary: This study is the first systematic review evaluating interventions to improve medication adherence for chronic diseases in India. The results suggest that patient education and regular follow-up are effective strategies to improve medication adherence. However, further high-quality randomized controlled trials are needed to evaluate these interventions.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the impact of public health emergencies on personal medication practices, finding that this can increase the risk of medication-related harm and other negative outcomes. The study included 129 research studies conducted in 32 countries, with a majority in the USA. Findings indicate that maintaining routine medication practices during public health emergencies is a universal problem.

Summary: The study identified high medication non-adherence among older community-dwelling people in Singapore, with predictors including smoking, perceived complexity of medication regime, treatment dissatisfaction, lack of medication knowledge, and experience of side effects. Healthcare professionals can use these predictors to identify at-risk individuals and develop interventions to improve adherence.

Summary: This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of medication noninitiation in the pediatric population and identify the factors that explain this behavior. The results showed a high prevalence of noninitiation in children and varied according to age and medical groups. The results also suggest that there are inequities in access to pharmacologic treatments in this population.

Summary: This review summarizes existing literature on interventions to enhance medication adherence for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients and their effectiveness. Multicomponent interventions have achieved the greatest success in promoting medication adherence among IBD patients. Future research should focus on a multidisciplinary approach to design multi-component interventions to optimize treatment adherence and enhance long-term clinical outcomes.

Summary: Many veterans struggle with PTSD and have difficulty completing traditional trauma treatments. This study explored the effectiveness of a short mobile app-adapted HRVB intervention in combination with treatment as usual for veterans with military-related PTSD. The results showed that the intervention group experienced significant improvements in depression symptoms and autonomic function, suggesting that brief HRVB interventions can be helpful in reducing comorbidities and improving overall well-being in veterans with PTSD. However, further research is needed to improve adherence to home practice.
