Summary: This study investigated the nutritional status, dietary intake, and dietary diversity of waste pickers in South Africa. The findings revealed that waste pickers had poor nutritional status with monotonous starch-based diets lacking vegetables and fruits. These results reflect their precarious economic status and highlight the need to improve access and affordability of nutritious food.

Summary: Children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) have different dietary intake and nutritional status compared to typically developing children. They consume more vegetable drinks and gluten-free cereals, but less fish. Their sensory profile score is lower, and children with sensory differences consume less dairy but more cereals and protein foods.

Summary: This study analyzed the gut bacteria composition in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and typical development (TD), and its relationship with nutritional status and dietary intake. The results showed that children with ASD had lower levels of Bifidobacterium longum and higher levels of Clostridium glycolicum compared to TD children. Additionally, excess weight children had lower levels of Roseburia. These findings highlight the significant differences in gut microbiota composition between children with ASD and TD, considering their nutritional status and dietary intake.

Summary: This is the first systematic review summarizing the evidence on both dietary intake and nutritional status among refugees who have resettled in non-camp settings within host countries worldwide. The study found that refugees remain vulnerable to acute food insecurity, malnutrition, and critically inadequate food and nutrient intake after migration. Comprehensive dietary and health screening, as well as culturally appropriate and sustainable nutrition education resources and interventions, are needed to improve the diet and nutrition of refugees.

Summary: The etiology of multifactorial morbidities such as undernutrition and anemia in children living with HIV on ART is poorly understood. In this study, both HIV infection and low iron stores were associated with lower height-for-age Z-scores, while HIV infection and sufficient iron stores were associated with higher levels of inflammation markers. HIV+ children with low iron stores had worse nutritional status and higher levels of subclinical inflammation compared to HIV- children.

Summary: Residents consuming texture-modified diets with ONS had higher intake of energy, protein, carbohydrates, and fat compared to those without ONS. However, they still fell short of their energy and carbohydrate requirements. Both groups had inadequate fibre intake and high saturated fat intake, with a significant portion of residents at risk of malnutrition.

Summary: This study investigates the variations of the surface Moho beneath the northwestern Arabian plate using Bouguer gravity data and a 3DINVER program. The calculation results show that the maximum Moho depth is over 40 km in the western Arabian shield and the minimum depths of 16-20 km are mainly located beneath the Mediterranean Sea. The study also innovatively implements an exponential density contrast decrease in the sediment-basement interface, resulting in a more accurate representation of the subsurface structure and providing valuable insights into the geodynamic processes and seismogenic potential of the area.

Summary: This study aimed to identify multiple nutritional health problems among children and adolescents aged 7-17 years and analyze the relevant factors. The prevalence of wasting, overweight, obesity, metabolic syndrome, and various nutrient deficiencies were observed in the study population. Factors such as demographic characteristics, behavioral characteristics, parents' characteristics, and family characteristics were associated with these malnutrition disorders. Health education focusing on behavior intervention and nutrition education is necessary to address nutritional problems among children.

Summary: The effects of camel milk intake on glycemic control in patients with diabetes were analyzed in this systematic review and meta-analysis. Results showed that camel milk consumption significantly decreased HbA1c levels and insulin dose in diabetic patients, while there was a tendency to decrease fasting blood glucose. The effects of camel milk varied between different types of diabetes, and long-term consumption of camel milk could be a beneficial adjunctive therapy.

Summary: This study investigates the anthropometric status and food consumption patterns of children in the UAE, as well as their adherence to nutrient and dietary recommendations. Results show that a significant proportion of children suffer from stunted growth, wasting, and overweight/obesity. Many children consume excessive amounts of free sugars and saturated fats, while their intake of essential nutrients such as linoleic acid, alpha-linolenic acid, and dietary fiber is inadequate. Furthermore, low dietary adherence is seen in the consumption of fruits, vegetables, and milk/dairy. These findings highlight the need for nutritional policies to improve children's diets in the UAE.

Summary: Globally, anemia among children during complementary feeding is prevalent. A study was conducted on Syrian refugee children aged 6 to 23 months to identify the main determinants of anemia and understand the knowledge and attitudes of their mothers and Lebanese healthcare staff. The study found that 42% of the children and 20% of their mothers were anemic. Determinants of child anemia included maternal anemia, lack of knowledge about fish as a source of iron, recent illness, and inadequate consumption of iron-rich foods.

Summary: This study aimed to measure the prevalence of malnutrition in adult hospitalized patients in Lebanon using the GLIM tool and explore the association between malnutrition and length of hospital stay. The study found that the prevalence of malnutrition risk was 31.2% according to NRS-2002 and 35.6% according to the GLIM criteria. Malnourished patients had a significantly longer length of hospital stay. The study recommends evidence-based interventions to address the underlying causes of malnutrition in Lebanese hospitals.
