A one-step synthesis strategy is developed to prepare a novel super-hydrophobic zeolitic imidazolate framework F-ZIF-90 by using a fluorine-functionalized imidazolate as an organic linker. The F-ZIF-90 shows high water-stability and superhydrophobicity, thus it is very promising for oil removal. Through in situ growth of F-ZIF-90 on a polydopamine (PDA) modified sponge, the resulting F-ZIF-90@PDA@sponge composite shows high adsorption capacities for various oils and organic liquids ranging from 1600 wt% to 4800 wt%.
