Summary: In this paper, a multi-objective hybrid woodpecker and flamingo search optimization algorithm is proposed for finding optimum Cluster Head (CH)-based energy-aware routing protocol in the IoT environment. The proposed method uses intelligent CH selection through the woodpecker and flamingo search optimization algorithm. The Hyb-WFSOA method is evaluated using fitness functions like distance, delay, energy consumption, and throughput, and it achieves lower delay, higher delivery ratio, and lower energy consumption compared to existing methods.

Summary: This article presents a comprehensive analysis of 85 research papers on conventional Cluster Head Selection (CHS) approaches in Wireless Sensor Network based Internet of Things (WSN-IoT). The analysis shows that while these conventional approaches prolong network lifetime and reduce energy depletion, they fail to provide enhanced security, Quality of Service (QoS), and balance the temperature and load of WSN-IoT devices. The article concludes that integrating optimization algorithms with machine learning approaches can achieve QoS, security, temperature, and load balance in addition to energy efficiency and network longevity.

Summary: This paper proposes a Coverage Hole aware Optimal Cluster based Routing (CHOCR) scheme for WSN-IoT, which balances clustering with the Modified Lichtenberg Optimization (MLO) algorithm, uses linear equilibrium optimization based decision making (LEO-DM) to determine cluster heads, and employs a hybrid deep recurrent neural network (HD-RNN) for intermediate node selection. The proposed CHOCR scheme is evaluated through comparison with other current routing schemes based on metrics such as energy consumption, network longevity, packet delivery ratio, etc.

Summary: The main goal of designing SDN-enabled WSNs with limited network resource utilization is to maximize the network lifespan. Clustering and routing techniques are widely used to achieve energy-efficient and stable network performance in SDN-enabled WSNs by balancing the network load. However, selecting optimal control nodes (CNs) is a critical challenge in clustering due to the high computational complexity of global optimization. Therefore, optimizing the CNs selection for the routing process with limited network resources is necessary.

Summary: The Internet of Things (IoT) has become a reality, bringing us into a new era of innovation. However, there are still challenges to overcome in order to make the IoT more resilient. This study presents a QoS aware energy efficient multipath routing (QEMR) protocol based on a hybrid optimization algorithm for improving the IoT's resilience. The proposed QEMR scheme achieves optimal clustering, determines cluster heads, and selects the optimum path using advanced techniques like modified teaching-learning-based optimization (MTLO), nonlinear regression-based pigeon optimization (NR-PO), and Deep Kronecker Neural Network (DKNN).

Summary: Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is a promising platform where Sensor Nodes (SNs) can sense and monitor physical or environmental conditions and send data to the Base Station (BS) via multi-hop routing. The selection of the right Cluster Head (CH) is crucial for enhancing the performance of clustering routing protocols. In this study, a new optimization model called Serial Exponential Newton Meta heuristic algorithm (SExpNMA) is developed for CH selection and routing. The proposed SExpNMA considers energy, Link Lifetime (LLT), and delay as fitness functions to select the optimal solution. Performance analysis shows that SExpNMA achieves a maximum residual energy of 0.515 J, LLT of 0.346, throughput of 0.617, and minimum delay of 0.236 s.
