Species of the genus Costaclymenia are, in several regions, common components of early late Famennian (Late Devonian) ammonoid assemblages. Although often cited in the literature, a modern revision of the original material from Central Europe and Great Britain has not previously been undertaken. We revise the following species: Costaclymenia binodosa (MUNSTER, 1832) with the proposal of a neotype, C. kiliani (WEDEKIND, 1914) and C. muensteri (ANSTED, 1838).

Morphological selectivity of the Permian-Triassic ammonoid mass extinction

Xu Dai, Dieter Korn, Haijun Song

Summary: Ammonoids suffered a diversity bottleneck during the Permian-Triassic mass extinction and rapidly diversified in the Early Triassic. The survivors of the extinction were mainly smooth and weakly ornamented forms, contrasting with the coarsely ornamented forms dominating before the extinction. The morphological shift from coarsely ornamented to smooth forms during the extinction possibly indicates an ecological turnover of ammonoids.

Conch geometry, ontogeny and dimorphism in the Early Bajocian ammonoid Stephanoceras from Normandy, France

Michel Schmidt, Dieter Korn

Summary: A large suite of Early Bajocian Stephanoceras specimens from Evrecy, Normandy, France, shows wide variation in conch and sculpture, with major problems in separating species within the assemblage. The study reveals weak correlation between conch parameters and sculpture, but dimorphs can be separated based on sudden changes in conch parameters during ontogeny. The onset of these changes varies between 40 and 75 mm conch diameter within the assemblage.

Ammonoids from the Carboniferous-Permian boundary of east-central Iran

Dieter Korn, Abbas Ghaderi, Lea Devaere, Mohammad Khanehbad

Summary: This study reports a small ammonoid assemblage from Carboniferous-Permian boundary strata in the Tabas region of east-central Iran, describing two new species. The assemblage spans from the Frasnian to Early Permian age, indicating deep erosion and reworking in the basin.

Revision of Tornoceras frechi WEDEKIND, 1918 and consequences for the Late Devonian ammonoid stratigraphy

Dieter Korn

Summary: The Late Devonian ammonoid species Tornoceras frechi has been revised and two new species have been described based on material from the Frasnian-Famennian boundary interval of the Anti-Atlas. Phoenixites is considered a subjective synonym of Tornoceras, and Tornoceras frechi is no longer an index fossil for the earliest ammonoid zone of the Famennian in the Anti-Atlas.

The pharciceratid ammonoids from the Roteisenstein Formation of Dillenburg (Cephalopoda, Ammonoidea)

Dieter Korn, Juergen Bockwinkel

Summary: The study revises the Pharciceratina of the Red Ironstone Formation from the Dillenburg area, introducing a new genus and several new species, as well as proposing neotypes for specific species. The stratigraphic distribution of the genera is discussed and categorized into three assemblages.

The nautiloids from the Early Carboniferous Dalle a Merocanites of Timimoun, western Algeria

Dieter Korn, Luyi Miao, Jurgen Bockwinkel

Summary: This article describes a coiled nautiloid assemblage from the Dalle a Merocanites formation in western Algeria, consisting of nine species from the family Trigonoceratidae. It is the most diverse Carboniferous nautiloid assemblage known from North Africa, but less diverse than the assemblages from Belgium and Ireland.

The Permian-Triassic boundary section at Baghuk Mountain, Central Iran: carbonate microfacies and depositional environment

Franziska Heuer, Lucyna Leda, Hemen Moradi-Salimi, Jana Gliwa, Vachik Hairapetian, Dieter Korn

Summary: The geological section at Baghuk Mountain in Central Iran provides excellent exposures of fossiliferous marine sedimentary successions from the Late Permian to Early Triassic. Detailed analysis of microfacies changes across the Permian-Triassic boundary reveals that carbonate production and biogenic activity ceased simultaneously during the main mass extinction event towards the end of the Permian period.

The tornoceratid ammonoids from the Roteisenstein Formation of Dillenburg (Cephalopoda, Ammonoidea)

Dieter Korn, Juergen Bockwinkel

Summary: This study revises the Tornoceratina ammonoids from the Red Ironstone Formation of the Dillenburg area in the eastern Rhenish Mountains. It re-describes several species and proposes two new genera and one new species. Additionally, a new species from the Anti-Atlas region of Morocco is described and compared with known species.

Taxonomy and ontogeny of the Lituitida (Cephalopoda) from Orthoceratite Limestone erratics (Middle Ordovician)

Martina Aubrechtova, Dieter Korn

Summary: This study revises the Ordovician ectocochleate cephalopods of the Lituitida order, mainly found in Germany, Poland, and the Kaliningrad Region of Russia. A total of 28 species belonging to seven genera were identified, with 11 newly described species. The concept of several taxa described in the 19th century was refined, and neotypes were proposed for two ambiguous species.

Early Carboniferous nautiloids from the Central Sahara, southern Algeria

Dieter Korn, Juergen Bockwinkel

Summary: This study describes coiled nautiloids from five different localities in southern Algeria, which are dated to the Tournaisian and early to middle Viséan stages of the Early Carboniferous. The researchers discovered new genera and species, providing important contributions to the study of Early Carboniferous biota in the region.

Dieter Korn, Jurgen Bockwinkel

Summary: The ammonoids of the suborder Gephuroceratina from the Roteisenstein (Red Ironstone) Formation in the area around Dillenburg have been revised, with a new species described and several other species revised. The stratigraphic distribution of the genera is discussed and assigned to three distinct assemblages based on their age.

Baghuk Mountain (Central Iran): high-resolution stratigraphy of a continuous Central Tethyan Permian Triassic boundary section

Dieter Korn, Lucyna Leda, Franziska Heuer, Hemen Moradi Salimi, Elham Farshid, Amir Akbari, Martin Schobben, Abbas Ghaderi, Ulrich Struck, Jana Gliwa, David Ware, Vachik Hairapetian

Summary: The Permian-Triassic boundary sections at Baghuk Mountain in Central Iran are studied for their lithological succession, biostratigraphy, and chemostratigraphy. Various fossil assemblages, including conodonts, ammonoids, and nautiloids, are analyzed to establish a high-resolution stratigraphy. Carbon isotope data reveal a continuous late Changhsingian negative excursion across the boundary clay, with the lightest values at the base of the Triassic.

OSTRACODS FROM THE END-PERMIAN MASS EXTINCTION IN THE ARAS VALLEY SECTION (NORTH-WEST IRAN)

Jana Gliwa, Marie-Beatrice Forel, Sylvie Crasquin, Abbas Ghaderi, Dieter Korn

Summary: The study of ostracods in the Aras Valley section of northwest Iran revealed a significant turnover in species composition during the end-Permian mass extinction event, from a low-diversity Fabalicypris-dominated community to a more diverse Bairdiacypris-dominated community. This turnover coincided with a significant temperature increase and suggests that environmental changes, such as thermal stress, may have influenced ostracod assemblages prior to the extinction event.
