Summary: This study evaluated the cost-effectiveness and cost-utility of FFR-guided PCI as the secondary endpoint of the FLOWER-MI trial. The results showed that FFR-guided strategy is unlikely to be cost effective compared to angiography-guided strategy in terms of clinical and quality of life outcomes after one year.

Summary: Using a new-generation drug-eluting stent, the study compared the 2-year clinical outcomes of patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) and non-DM concomitant with a non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) and an ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention. The results showed higher non-CD rates in patients with DM and higher CD rates in patients without DM in the NSTEMI group.

Summary: This study assessed redundant randomized clinical trials (RCTs) on ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients in China and the USA and estimated the harm caused to enrolled patients. The results showed that out of 983 eligible RCTs conducted in mainland China, 775 (78.8%) were redundant and not referenced by clinical practice guidelines. The control groups of these redundant RCTs experienced 3305 extra major adverse cardiac events (MACEs), indicating potential research waste and violation of research ethics.

Summary: The study compared the 2-year major clinical outcomes between STEMI and NSTEMI patients who are current smokers treated with PCI, and found no significant difference in outcomes. Further research is needed to confirm these results.

Summary: The study found that regionalization programs for ST-segment-elevation myocardial infarction did not have a statistically significant impact on the treatment and outcomes of patients with NSTEMIs. Over the study period, there were slight increases in early angiography rates and decreases in mortality rates, but these changes were not directly related to regionalization policies.

Summary: Prolonged dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) for 12 months or more can reduce the risk of recurrent myocardial infarction or stent thrombosis regardless of the type of myocardial infarction. However, it also increases the risk of bleeding.

Summary: Among patients with resuscitated out-of-hospital cardiac arrest without ST-segment elevation, the immediate angiography strategy did not provide any benefit over a delayed or selective strategy in terms of the 30-day risk of death from any cause.

Summary: Approximately half of the patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction have additional atherosclerotic lesions in coronary segments other than the infarct-related artery. The optimal management of these residual lesions has been extensively studied, with evidence supporting the benefits of complete revascularization. However, controversies exist regarding the timing and strategy of treatment. This review provides a critical appraisal of the available literature, discussing areas of certainty, knowledge gaps, approaches for specific clinical subsets, and future research directions.

Summary: In hemodynamically stable patients with NSTEMI and MVD, a strategy of multivessel percutaneous coronary intervention (MV-PCI) improves prognosis. For patients with complex coronary anatomy, staged MV-PCI is associated with a lower risk of major adverse cardiac events (MACE) compared to immediate MV-PCI.

Summary: The study investigated the association between ambient temperature and non-ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) in the tropical city-state of Singapore. Results showed that temperature decline was associated with a delayed cumulative increase in NSTEMI risk, with older age groups potentially more susceptible.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of myocardial infarction severity and diabetes on the migratory activity of CD34+/CXCR4+ progenitor cells and attempts to predict cardiac outcomes. The results show an interaction between infarct and diabetes on the migratory activity of CD34+/CXCR4+ cells, but the test does not accurately predict functional outcomes in patients.

Summary: Analysis of administrative databases suggests a higher incidence of cancer among individuals who experienced a myocardial infarction, especially within the first 6 months. However, it remains unclear whether this is due to a biological link or the detection of pre-symptomatic cancers and shared risk factors. A study comparing the cancer incidence between thrombotic ST-segment-elevation myocardial infarction patients and the general population found no significant difference over a 5-year follow-up, but a higher incidence was observed in the first 3 months after the myocardial infarction.

Summary: This study investigated the association between duodenal eosinophils and mast cells in patients with functional dyspepsia (FD). The results showed that both duodenal eosinophils and mast cells were increased in FD patients compared with controls. However, the quality of evidence was very low due to substantial heterogeneity and publication bias, and the causality remains uncertain, requiring further studies.

Summary: The study aimed to describe health-related out-of-pocket expenses incurred by Australian families with children with chronic and complex diseases. Families reported high out-of-pocket costs, which impacted the family's financial situation and led to many mothers reducing or stopping work to care for their children. Prospective tracking revealed that out-of-pocket spending was associated with various healthcare costs and prescription medications.

Summary: This meta-analysis provides pooled evidence that a PBC pregnancy is associated with fetal morbidity and maternal lifestyle associations that may influence pregnancy outcomes. More studies are needed to establish disease associations that may directly affect pregnancy outcomes. These data are essential for clinicians managing these patients before, during or after pregnancy.

Summary: This study investigated the clinical utility of the emerging prognostic model, Albumin-Bilirubin (ALBI) grade, in patients with hepatocellular cancer (HCC) undergoing transarterial chemoembolization (TACE). Summary: This study analyzed the injuries caused by toppling televisions in children and found that children under 6 years old are more likely to sustain head and neck injuries, require hospital treatment, and even die or be admitted to the intensive care unit. Strategies for injury prevention should include community education, promotion and use of tip restraint devices, mandatory safety standards, and manufacturers' commitment to improving TV stability.

Summary: This study aims to determine the distinguishing pathological and clinical factors of different Brachyspira species, which can be useful to clinicians and pathologists. Through a pooled analysis comparing each species, differences in the pathologic and clinical profiles of each Brachyspira species were identified. Patients infected with Brachyspira pilosicoli were more likely to have diarrhea, fever, HIV, and immunocompromised conditions. Patients infected with Brachyspira aalborgi were more likely to have lamina propria inflammation.

Summary: This study examined the changes of eosinophils and other immune cells in the mucosa of colonic diverticula through quantitative histology. The results showed a significant increase in eosinophil counts at the base and neck of the diverticula. These findings provide new clues for understanding the role of eosinophils and chronic inflammation in the pathophysiology of colonic diverticulosis.
