Summary: The study shows that preconditioning with hypertrophic stress protects the heart from I/R injury by improving mitochondrial metabolism, reducing oxidative/nitrative stress and inhibiting apoptosis. ALDH2 is obligatorily required for the development of cardiac hypertrophic preconditioning and acts as the mediator of this process.

Summary: Earlier studies have shown that CysSSH, a sulfur-containing compound, has antioxidant and oxidant properties and can mitigate oxidative stress. However, its role in myocardial IRI was not understood. This study investigated the production and consumption of CysSSH in the heart under normoxic and hypoxic conditions and found that exogenous administration of Cys-SSS-Cys can rescue the heart from injury and improve cardiac function.

Summary: Transient non-ischaemic hypertrophy stimulation through TAC preconditioning can render the heart resistant to subsequent ischaemic injury, reducing myocardial infarct size and apoptosis, and improving cardiac function significantly. TAC preconditioning attenuates I/R-induced autophagy by deacetylating SOD2 via a SIRT3-dependent mechanism, highlighting a novel strategy for cardioprotection against cardiac injury.

Summary: Delayed remote ischemic preconditioning (RIPC) has protective effects against spinal cord ischemia-reperfusion injury (SCIRI) in mice, and SIRT3 is involved in this protection through the NMDAR-AMPK-PGC-1 alpha signaling pathway.

Summary: Studies have shown that cells and tissues may enhance their resistance to more severe ischaemic injuries by undergoing ischemic preconditioning under low oxidative stress conditions. This review summarizes the latest knowledge on adaptive mechanisms, signaling transduction pathways, antioxidant systems, and in vivo adaptation strategies in response to ischemia/reperfusion and brain trauma events.

Summary: AKI is mainly caused by renal IRI, and LSD1 has been shown to be positively related to renal IRI. Inhibition of LSD1 can alleviate tissue damage, ferroptosis, and oxidative stress caused by IRI through the TLR4/NOX4 pathway. LSD1 may be a potential therapeutic target for renal IRI.

Summary: In this study, the effect of liraglutide on experimental testicular ischaemia reperfusion in rats was evaluated in terms of biochemistry, histopathology, and immunohistochemistry. The results showed that liraglutide treatment has a moderate preventive effect against I/R injury in testicular torsion by demonstrating anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antiapoptotic properties.

Summary: Mitochondrial fusion is inhibited in myocardial IR, and the upstream mechanism is unclear. NR4A1 aggravates myocardial IR and increases oxidative stress, affecting mitochondrial function and morphology. Inhibiting NR4A1 improves oxidative stress levels and mitochondrial function, reducing IR.

Summary: Mitochondrial dysfunction and increased oxidative stress are observed in patients with heart failure (HF). Atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) has beneficial effects on the heart and can promote autophagy. This study demonstrates that ANP can improve mitochondrial function and reduce oxidative stress in HF patients by stimulating autophagy and mitophagy.
