Summary: This study used network pharmacology to predict and screen the active ingredients, action targets and signaling pathways of ginseng. It was found that (20R)-panaxadiol (PD) is a more desirable active ingredient due to its close relationship with the cAMP pathway and its ability to promote white adipocyte beigeing and increase thermogenesis, exerting anti-obesity effects.

Summary: This study found no significant association between baseline PRA, PAC and Ang II concentrations and blood pressure response to bisoprolol treatment. However, all these parameters were reduced after 6 weeks of treatment with bisoprolol. The common polymorphisms in ADRB1 and the c.393C > T polymorphism in GNAS were also not significantly associated with blood pressure and heart rate response to bisoprolol.

Summary: The study investigates the equivalence of two computation approaches for the Generalized F-test through Monte-Carlo simulation in terms of Type I error probability and penalized power. It is found that the approaches are not completely equivalent, leading to different conclusions in certain scenarios. Researchers are advised to choose the more powerful method based on factors like sample size and number of groups.

Summary: Overweight and obesity are significant public health issues associated with multiple factors. The global obesity epidemic continues to grow, impacting over 2 billion people. Obesity increases the risk of developing various diseases and contributes to healthcare costs. Vitamin deficiency is one of the causes of the increasing trend of obesity. Alterations in the TCN-2 (776C>G) gene and vitamin B12 levels were evaluated in relation to body mass index (BMI) and other biochemical parameters.

Summary: This study demonstrates that ADAM17 plays a vital role in metabolic homeostasis in adipose tissues. Mice with adipose tissue-specific deletion of ADAM17 exhibit a hypermetabolic phenotype, protecting them from weight gain, hepatosteatosis, and insulin resistance. They found that the neurotransmitter norepinephrine activates beta-adrenoceptors to regulate ADAM17 expression and trigger the shedding of SEMA4B, an adipokine that inhibits adipocyte differentiation and thermogenesis.

Summary: The objective of this study was to analyze the association between obesity and chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular disease (CVD) and osteoarthritis (OA), in the Hail region of Saudi Arabia. The study found a high prevalence of joint pain and cardiovascular abnormalities in the participants. Moreover, the Saudi population showed a higher prevalence of knee osteoarthritis and associated symptoms compared to western civilizations.

Summary: This study explored the association between genetic polymorphisms of HIF1 alpha and obesity as well as obesity-related cytokines in the Han Chinese population. The results suggest that the C allele of rs2301104 may be a protective mutation against obesity, and the CC/CG genotypes of rs2301104 could be protective genotypes of obesity. Furthermore, subjects with CC/CG genotypes of rs2301104 had lower levels of IL-6, TNF-alpha, IL-1 beta, IL-8, and IL-10 than those with GG genotypes.
