Summary: The study found that porcine haemagglutinating encephalomyelitis virus (PHEV) infection strongly suppresses IFN-beta production in the early stage by deactivating IRF3. However, PHEV does not disrupt the protective response pathway regulated by RIG-I/MDA5/MAVS/TBK1. Furthermore, PHEV and poly(I:C) regulate IFN-beta induction via two different pathways.

Summary: The DNA methylation regulator UHRF1 is found to be a potent negative regulator of IFN-I induction during alphaherpesvirus infection. Knockdown of UHRF1 in cells increases IFN-beta-mediated gene transcription and antiviral inhibition. UHRF1 deficiency promotes IFN-I production by triggering dsRNA-sensing receptor RIG-I and activating IRF3 phosphorylation.

Summary: In this study, a novel triple NanoPCR molecular detection method was established for FCV, FPV, and FHV-1, with higher sensitivity compared to conventional PCR. The clinical results showed positive rates of FCV, FPV, and FHV-1 were higher in NanoPCR tests than in conventional PCR, indicating the potential for wider clinical applications.

Summary: Recent studies have shown that the main viral protease NSP5 of SARS-CoV-2 interacts with the host epigenetic factor HDAC2, but its biological significance remains largely unknown. The interaction between NSP5 and HDAC2 was confirmed in this study, showing that NSP5 can inhibit the IFN signaling pathway independently of HDAC2.

Summary: Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a rare genetic disease caused by mutations in the CFTR gene, leading to chronic lung infections. This study reveals the link between recurrent infections in CF patients and impaired innate immune response. The use of STING pathway agonists can restore the immune response and potentially be utilized as a new treatment strategy.

Summary: The development of highly effective malaria vaccines and improvement of drug-treatment protocols are important for malaria elimination. However, the establishment of parasite-specific immune regulatory networks hinder these efforts. This study identified STING as a critical mediator of type I interferon production by CD4+ T cells during malaria infection, leading to the development of specific CD4+ T cells.

Summary: In this study, seven type I interferons and two type II interferons were identified in the snakehead Channa argus. These interferons share amino acid sequence similarities with those in other fish species, are located at conserved loci, and are induced by polyI:C in examined organs/tissues. Additionally, a new hypothesis about the evolution of type I interferons in teleost fish was proposed based on known evidence.

Summary: In this study, the negative regulatory role of black carp DDX19 (bcDDX19) in the innate immune response was investigated. It was found that bcDDX19 restricts the entry of IRF3 into the nucleus, thereby negatively regulating the RLR/IRF3-mediated type I IFN signaling pathway.

Summary: A one-pot method was used to depolymerize organosolv lignin into high added-value phenolic monomers in a synergistic reaction system with methanol-dimethoxymethane binary solvents and acid catalyst. The optimal conditions for maximum yield of liquid products and phenolic monomers were determined through careful investigation of solvent composition and reaction parameters. The proposed mechanism for lignin depolymerization provides promising prospects for developing effective methods to obtain high added-value phenolic compounds from lignin.

Summary: This study reveals that FCV infection induces degradation of host mRNAs and gene shutoff through PP protein, which is essential for mRNA degradation. The PP protein from different strains of FCV is a key factor in mRNA degradation, and the GST-PP fusion protein demonstrates RNase activity in vitro, potentially inhibiting the host immune response.

Summary: The study revealed that lnc MATN1-AS1 is significantly elevated in osteosarcoma cells and tissues, associated with tumor staging, lung metastasis, and histologic type. Patients with high lnc MATN1-AS1 levels had shorter overall survival and recurrence-free survival. Knockdown of lnc MATN1-AS1 inhibited OS cell proliferation, migration, and invasion by sponging miR-1299, indicating its oncogenic features and prognostic significance in OS.

Summary: Wind erosion from agricultural land leads to high dust emissions and significant loss of carbon and nutrients from the soil. This study estimates global farmland dust emissions and organic carbon losses, with key regions including the UK, Ukraine, Russia, southern Canada, central US, Buenos Aires, and northeast China. These estimates are crucial references for addressing the global carbon cycle, dust emissions, and black soil conservation.
