Summary: The combined administration of prodigiosin (PDG) and selenium (Na2SeO3) has shown promising therapeutic effects in a rat model of schizophrenia induced by amphetamine. The treatment improved social interaction, decreased acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and dopamine levels, and modulated the expression of NMDAR1 and neurotrophic factors. It also enhanced antioxidant defense, reduced neuroinflammation and apoptosis, resulting in significant improvements in schizophrenia-related symptoms.

Summary: Nano-selenium (SeNPs) with small particles can be absorbed by the body and exhibit biological activity. YC-3-SeNPs were biosynthesized by Bacillus cereus YC-3, while CST-SeNPs were chemically synthesized and encapsulated with chitosan. Both types of SeNPs showed excellent stability and the ability to scavenge free radicals, with YC-3-SeNPs being less toxic than CST-SeNPs. YC-3-SeNPs and CST-SeNPs may inhibit oxidative stress and apoptosis in cardiomyocytes, making them potential treatments for cardiovascular diseases.

Summary: This study investigates the molecular mechanism of selenium (Se) alleviating lead (Pb)-caused damage in chicken cerebellums and thalami. The results show that Pb causes apoptosis through the p53-Cyt c-Caspase-3 pathway. Pb also leads to oxidative stress and decreases Se-containing factors. Se supplementation reverses these effects, alleviating oxidative stress and apoptosis. This research provides new information on the detoxification of Se on abiotic stress and environmental pollutant poisoning.

The results suggest that vitamin D deficiency in newborns may be associated with inflammation and changes in NLR, LMR, and PLR. NLR and other hematologic indices may serve as non-invasive, simple, easily measurable, and cost-effective markers of inflammation in newborns.

Summary: This study examined the relationship between SII, NLR, and PLR with clinical findings of RSV infection in children with LRTI. The results showed that CRP levels were higher in RSV positive cases, while NLR, PLR, and SII were lower in these cases. CRP performed better than other blood parameters as a marker. Determining the cause of the disease using these parameters can aid in disease management and avoid unnecessary antibiotic use.

Summary: This study evaluated the impact of the RV vaccine on the natural course of RV infections. The results showed that children who received the RV vaccine had lower rates of fever and hospitalization for acute gastroenteritis (AGE), and breastfeeding was also associated with a lower risk of infection. The neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and systemic immune inflammatory index (SII) were significantly higher in the RV-unvaccinated group.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the monocyte count and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels and their ratio in patients with deep venous thrombosis and investigate whether this ratio can indicate thrombus burden in terms of thrombus location. The results showed a significantly higher monocyte/high-density lipoprotein ratio in deep venous thrombosis patients compared to the control group. This ratio was associated with thrombus location and the number of vein segments involved.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the vitamin B12 levels and risk factors in preschool children. The results showed that B12 deficiency was significantly higher in the 6-11-month group compared to other age groups. Children with insufficient B12 levels had higher homocysteine levels. There was no significant difference in weekly dairy and meat consumption levels among different age groups. The study concluded that low vitamin B12 levels and increased homocysteine levels could be important risk factors in preschool children, especially those starting to consume additional foods from the age of 6 months.

Summary: The zinc coordination complex ZnMD, synthesized in this study, showed promising effects in treating hypertension and cardiac hypertrophy. It was more effective than the antihypertensive drug MD in reducing blood pressure and preventing myocardial hypertrophy. ZnMD also exhibited protective effects on the heart by reducing oxidative damage and regulating the expression of oxidative enzymes. These findings suggest that ZnMD has the potential to be developed as a therapeutic drug for hypertension and cardiac dysfunction.

Summary: This study investigates the neuro effects of lanthanides on different brain areas in rats and finds that they can distribute and accumulate in various brain regions. Treatment with cerium nanoparticles or lanthanum causes a significant decrease in norepinephrine, dopamine, serotonin, and GABA, accompanied by a significant increase in 5-hydroxyl indoleacetic acid levels. Moreover, cerium nanoparticles exhibit high activity in scavenging free radicals.

Summary: The combination of curcumin, vitamins D and E with Fe2O3-NPs and MnO2-NPs has shown to improve semen parameters and reduce apoptosis in germ cells in rats with testicular hyperthermia. This study suggests that this combination therapy may have a positive effect on fertility and decreasing the toxic effects of nanoparticles.
