A series of Schiff base compounds were synthesized by the reaction of different 3,5-dihalosalicylaldehyde (halo atoms equal to Cl, Br and I) with polymethylenediamines of varying chain length. The Schiff bases were characterized using FT-IR, UV-Vis, H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR and mass spectroscopic techniques, and elemental analyses (CHN), and crystal structure of some compounds was determined by X-ray crystallography. The in vitro biological screening effects of the synthesized compounds were tested against different microbial kinds. The results revealed that all compounds were biologically active.

Summary: A series of xanthene-based thiazoles were synthesized and characterized. These compounds exhibited high inhibition potential against acetylcholinesterase, butyrylcholinesterase, alpha-amylase, and alpha-glycosidase enzymes at low concentrations. Among them, compounds 3b and 3p showed superior inhibitory potential compared to known commercial inhibitors. Molecular docking studies also revealed important interactions between these compounds and the target enzymes.

Khurram S. Munawar, Saqi Ali, Shabbir Muhammad, Muhammad Ashfaq, Syed M. Abbas, Muhammad N. Tahir, Saifeldin M. Siddeeg, Gulzar Ahmed

Summary: The current work focused on synthesizing two new Schiff base ligands derived from o-aminophenol, named 2-[(E)-(3-chlorophenyl)methylidene]amino-phenol (2AP3Cl) and 4-Chloro-2-(E)-[(2-hydroxyphenyl)iminio]methyl-phenolate (2AP5Cl). Various spectroanalytical techniques were used to characterize the synthesized Schiff bases. Single crystal X-ray diffraction studies revealed that 2AP3Cl and 2AP5Cl adopted enol and keto tautomeric forms, respectively. The supramolecular assembly and crystal packing environment were investigated through Hirshfeld surface analysis and molecular energy calculations. Both compounds showed promising nonlinear optical properties and DNA binding abilities. The findings suggest potential applications in NLO and other fields.

Summary: Two new Cu(II) carboxylate complexes, Cu-NTA and Cu-DNTA, were synthesized by reacting 2-nitroterephthalic acid with CuSO4 center dot 5H2O at room temperature. The synthesized complexes were characterized using elemental (CHN), FT-IR, and thermogravimetric analysis. The crystal structures of the complexes were explored through single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, which revealed slightly distorted octahedral and square pyramidal coordination geometries for Cu-NTA and Cu-DNTA, respectively. The non-covalent interactions in the supramolecular assembly were investigated using Hirshfeld surface analysis for both complexes. Quantum chemical computations were performed to optimize the molecular geometry of Cu-NTA and to evaluate its linear and nonlinear optical properties.

Relativistic two-component time dependent density functional studies and Hirshfeld surface analysis of halogenated arylidenehydrazinylthiazole derivatives

Muhammad Haroon, Mirza Wasif Baig, Tashfeen Akhtar, Muhammad Nawaz Tahir, Muhammad Ashfaq

Summary: Crystal structures of 2-(2-chlorobenzylidene)hydrazinylthiazole (2a) and 2-(2-bromobenzylidene) hydrazineylthiazole (2b) were examined using single crystal XRD, revealing monoclinic crystal system and P21/n space group for both compounds. Hirshfeld surface analysis was employed to investigate the intermolecular interactions in the single crystals. The electronic spectra of 2a and 2b were studied using two-component relativistic sf-X2C-S-TD-DFT approach, and the induction of spin-orbit couplings by bromine and chlorine atoms in the organic framework was explored. The magnitude of spin-orbit couplings in 2b at the B3LYP-D3/x2c-TZVPPall level of theory suggests its potential use as a triplet sensitizer in photodynamic therapy and solar light-based fuel cells.

Polymorphs of Substituted p-Toluenesulfonanilide: Synthesis, Single-Crystal Analysis, Hirshfeld Surface Exploration, and Theoretical Investigation

Mehreen Riaz, Akbar Ali, Muhammad Ashfaq, Muhammad Ibrahim, Nadia Akram, Muhammad Nawaz Tahir, Aleksey Kuznetsov, Lyanne Rodriguez, Manal Y. Sameeh, Mohammed A. Assiri, Alexander Fernandez de la Torre

Summary: This investigation focuses on the two polymorphic forms, triclinic and monoclinic, of ethyl 3-iodo-4-((4-methylphenyl)sulfonamido)benzoate. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis confirms the presence of both polymorphs, and their molecular configurations are stabilized by intramolecular bonding. The crystal packing of the triclinic form is different from the monoclinic form due to different space groups and bonding types. Both compounds exhibit supramolecular assembly through noncovalent or intermolecular interactions, further supported by Hirshfeld surface exploration and density functional theory studies.
