Summary: Medication-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaws (MRONJ) is a difficult-to-treat complication of osteoporosis therapy and some malignancies cured with bisphosphonates and antiresorptive drugs. This study found that using a validated triple staining procedure for Actinomyces bacteria strains can detect a high rate of Actinomyces infection in MRONJ patient samples. The results suggest that the triple special staining should be the standard in MRONJ histology evaluation and can aid clinicians in selecting appropriate antibiotic medication for the elimination of actinomyces infection.

Summary: This article explores the complex relationship between bisphosphonates, commonly used for treating osteoporosis and tumors, and bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaws (BRONJ) after dental procedures. The impact of bisphosphonates on bone density and resorption and their effect on dental treatments are emphasized. Dental patients on bisphosphonates are at a higher risk of BRONJ, necessitating dentists' awareness of these risks. Topical applications of bisphosphonates enhance dental implant success and aid in periodontal treatment, while systemic administration significantly increases the risk of BRONJ, particularly in inflamed conditions. Preventive measures involve maintaining oral health, considering alternative treatments, and careful pre-operative and post-operative follow-ups. Future research could focus on finding bisphosphonate alternatives with fewer side effects or developing combinations that reduce BRONJ risk. This review underscores the need for further exploration of bisphosphonates and their implications in dental procedures.

Summary: This systematic review aimed to describe the quality of life and oral health-related quality of life of patients affected by medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw. Surgical treatment of the osteonecrosis was found to improve the quality of life of these patients. The study suggested a negative influence of osteonecrosis of the jaw on the quality of life and oral health-related quality of life among oncologic and osteoporotic patients.

The study sample consisted of 122 subjects, and no cases of MRONJ were observed during the study interval. It is advisable to closely monitor pediatric patients receiving antiresorptive treatment and provide appropriate dental treatment when necessary.
