Summary: In this study, copper-zinc ferrite nanoparticles coated with a poly(ethylene glycol) layer were synthesized and embedded into agarose gel, successfully designing a novel temperature-sensitive contrast agent for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The experimental results showed a strong correlation between temperature and image intensity in MR images of the contrast agent under a temperature gradient.

Summary: The chain length of poly(oligo(ethylene glycol) methyl ether acrylate) (POEGMEA) affects the colloidal stability and antibody-conjugation efficiency of nanoparticles. Short POEGMEA chains cannot effectively stabilize the nanoparticles, while long chains hinder efficient conjugation to antibodies. Specifically, the polymer containing 13 OEGMEA units shows the highest binding efficiency for antibody molecules.

Summary: This study explores the covalent functionalization of MXenes for bioimaging applications. By using a chelating agent and Gd3+ ions, the commonly diamagnetic MXenes were transformed into paramagnetic materials, enabling their use in magnetic resonance imaging. Covalent functionalization not only enhanced the stability and cytocompatibility of MXenes but also prevented the leakage of Gd3+ ions. This work expands the bioapplication of MXenes by introducing an MRI contrast and developing covalent functionalization strategies.

Summary: Computed tomography (CT) is a powerful imaging technique widely used in modern medicine, but it often requires the use of contrast agents to visualize structures with similar densities. Current clinical contrast agents for CT have significant drawbacks, such as nephrotoxicity and short circulation half-lives. Nanoparticle contrast agents have shown promise and are likely to be the main component of the next generation of CT contrast agents.

Summary: Ytterbium ferrites with fantastic ferroelectric and ferromagnetic properties are being used in various applications, but their potential as contrast agents in MRI and CT imaging is still underdeveloped. This study presents an eco-friendly method to directly synthesize stable and biocompatible colloidal dispersions of ytterbium ferrite nanoparticles, paving the way for the future evaluation of Yb-Fe based nanoparticles as multiplatform contrast agents in multimodal MRI and CT imaging.

Summary: In this study, silica-Ag:Mn3O4 hybrid nanoparticles were synthesized and conjugated with a commercial iodine contrast agent (Iohexol) for CT contrast enhancement. The results showed that the absorption intensity of the nanoparticles drastically increased, with higher Hounsfield unit (HU) values compared to Iohexol, indicating the efficiency of the hybrid nanoparticles in CT contrast enhancement.
