The electrochemical oxidation of 2-nitroso-1-naphthol (2N1N) in the absence and presence of some arylsulfinic acids in aqueous buffer/ethanol (30/70 v/v) mixtures has been studied. We were able to determine the pH dependence behavior of 2N1N on the one hand and the changes on the voltammetric response of 2N1N that are caused by arylsulfinic acids, on the other hand. In addition, some new sulfonamide derivatives have been synthesized from the reaction of 2N1N with arylsulfinic acids, via a very simple and green method.
