Summary: EPT, a recombinant variant of cholera toxin B subunit, shows promise for ulcerative colitis treatment. A solid oral formulation of EPT has been developed to prevent degradation in gastric acid, demonstrating therapeutic efficacy in mouse colitis models without the need for gastric acid neutralization pretreatment.

Summary: This study found that maintenance ustekinumab serum trough levels higher than 2.3 μg/mL were associated with a higher success rate of achieving mucosal healing and mucosal response in patients with Crohn's disease. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between maintenance ustekinumab serum trough levels and mucosal healing and/or response in patients with Crohn's disease.

Summary: Ustekinumab shows efficacy in pediatric Crohn's disease, but there is limited research on dosing, target trough levels, and therapeutic drug monitoring. Gradually escalating the dose may improve the response to ustekinumab. Further studies are needed to determine the long-term efficacy and optimal trough levels in children.

Summary: The influence of assisted infertility treatments on breastfeeding duration was evaluated. Mothers who conceived using assisted treatment and those who conceived naturally were compared in terms of breastfeeding exclusivity at 6 months. The study found no significant difference between the two groups.

Summary: This study conducted a comprehensive evaluation of children affected by COVID-19, finding the importance of intra-family transmission and the impact of nutritional status on the immune system. Even children with mild cases of the disease may have renal involvement, highlighting the need for prompt evaluation and identification of patients with reduced renal function reserve.

Summary: One fourth of individuals hospitalized for COVID-19 still experienced three or more persistent symptoms at six months after admission. Factors independently associated with the presence of three or more symptoms at month 6 included female gender, having three or more symptoms at admission, and ICU admission/transfer during the acute phase. Further longitudinal follow-up of severe COVID-19 patients is needed for better understanding of the long-term persistence of symptoms.

Summary: This study evaluated the persistence of antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 in hospital employees with mild COVID-19, finding that neutralizing antibodies were detectable in almost all participants at 6 months post infection. Anti-RBD antibodies showed better persistence and even increased over time, possibly due to the detection of progressively higher-affinity antibodies.

Summary: In this experiment, uncultured autologous rat oral mucosal epithelium (OME) was transplanted to alkali burned corneas in order to treat refractory persistent corneal epithelial defects (PED). The results showed that the transplantation accelerated the healing process and promoted the formation of the corneal epithelial barrier. In the further investigation, the transplanted oral epithelium cells were able to migrate to the corneal surface and transform into corneal epithelial phenotype. This suggests that oral epithelium may have a positive role in treating refractory PED.

Summary: The study revealed a persistent but declining humoral immunity against SARS-CoV-2 at six months following full vaccination with BNT162b2 in healthy individuals, with older individuals showing more pronounced decline. About half of the subjects are estimated to have Nabs values below 73.8% and 64.6% at 9 and 12 months post vaccination completion, respectively.

Summary: This study compared the structural brain characteristics, functional recovery, and quality of life in TBI patients aged 65 and above with a healthy control group. The results showed that TBI patients had slightly worse cognitive performance, poorer motor function, higher fall risk, and significantly reduced quality of life, even in cases classified as mild. There were no statistically significant differences in structural brain characteristics on MRI. Larger studies are needed to further investigate the impact of TBI versus frailty on function and quality of life in the elderly.
