Summary: This study aimed to improve the mechanical properties of glass ionomer cement/ diopside (GIC/DIO) nanocomposite for biomaterial applications. Diopside was synthesized using a sol-gel method and added to GIC at different weight percentages. Characterization of the synthesized diopside was performed using XRD, DTA, SEM, and FTIR analyses. The fabricated nanocomposite showed enhanced compressive strength, microhardness, and fracture toughness. The fluoride-releasing test indicated suitable options for dental restorations and orthopedic implants.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the ameliorative effect of curcumin-loaded cockle shell-derived calcium carbonate nanoparticle (Cur-CSCaCO3NP) on lead-induced neurotoxicity. The results showed that Cur-CSCaCO3NP treatment demonstrated enhanced ameliorative effects compared to free curcumin treatment by reducing oxidative stress and improving motor function.

Summary: Drug delivery carriers, specifically layer-by-layer releasing particles, are gaining interest for their ability to control the release of multiple therapeutic drugs and biomolecules. Mathematical models can provide a better understanding of the drug release process, and our model successfully evaluates the transport and release of a drug from a microparticle. Through sensitivity analysis, we found that the outer layer diffusivity is more significant than the diffusivity in the core, and increasing the dissolution parameters leads to an initial burst release of the drug.

Summary: Currently, stent implantation is the main treatment for severe coronary artery stenosis, using sirolimus-coated stents to inhibit restenosis. In vitro release testing of sirolimus-loaded coatings is commonly done using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with phosphate buffered solution (PBS). However, this method has limitations in accurately measuring the actual release of sirolimus. In this study, a new method involving drug decay, numerical convolution, and pharmacokinetic models was developed to accurately determine the actual drug release.

Summary: In this study, 99.5% CaCO3 nanoparticles from cockle shells were successfully synthesised and functionalised with acrylic acid N-hydroxysuccinimide ester to immobilise urease. The immobilised urease showed potential for the development of urea biosensors, with approximately 85.8% of urease covalently immobilised on the nanoparticles' surface areas.

Summary: In this study, core-shell nanoparticles containing lysozyme were formulated using precipitation and layering self-assembly. Mathematical equations were determined to understand the effect of process parameters, with pH being identified as the most crucial factor. Findings showed that mixing time significantly influenced encapsulation efficiency and particle size, while enzyme activity correlated well with alpha-helix content.
