Obesity would result in increased cardiovascular morbidity including endothelial destruction, and miRNAs are recognized as potent regulators on endothelial function. We therefore explored pivotal miRNAs before and after exercise and dietary intervention in obese adults and examined their potential relationships with selected endothelial function and biomarkers. Obese adults were included in an exercise and dietary intervention training program for 2 months. At the beginning and the end, measurements of anthropometric and metabolic parameters were performed. Flow-mediated dilation, endothelial related biochemicals and circulating miR-214 and miR-126 levels were also determined. Results showed that circulating miR-214 and miR-126 levels were significantly enhanced (P < 0.05) by exercise and dietary intervention along with improved endothelial function. The relationship between relative changes of miR-214 and that of endothelial progenitor cells was significant (r = 0.589, P < 0.05); relative expression of miR-126 was also significantly (r = 0.433, P < 0.05) correlated with endothelial nitric oxide synthase. The intervention lead to upregulation of circulating miR-214 and miR-126 in obesity, and these molecular adaptations are associated with improved endothelial function during the restoring process. Summary: This study used functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) to examine the differences in inhibitory control in individuals with problematic smartphone use (PSPU). The results showed that college students with PSPU exhibited greater Stroop interference and longer reaction times compared to the control group. Furthermore, the PSPU group had lower cortical activation in the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) during Stroop interference.

Aerobic exercises regulate the epididymal anion homeostasis of high-fat diet-induced obese rats through TRPA1-mediated Cl- and HCO3- secretion†

Dong-Dong Gao, Nan Ding, Wei-Ji Deng, Pei-Lun Li, Yi-Lin Chen, Lian-Meng Guo, Wen-Hao Liang, Jia-Hui Zhong, Jing-Wen Liao, Jun-Hao Huang, Min Hu

Summary: Aerobic exercises can improve the sperm motility of obese individuals, and this study investigated the potential involvement of the epididymis in this improvement. The results showed that aerobic exercises reversed the downregulation of TRPA1, improving the epididymal luminal milieu and sperm fertilizing capacity. Further experiments demonstrated that the activation of TRPA1 stimulated anion secretion via CFTR and CaCC, essential for sperm maturation.

Effects of whole-body vibration training on cognitive function: A systematic review

Jiayi Wen, Lu Leng, Min Hu, Xiaohui Hou, Junhao Huang

Summary: Whole-body vibration (WBV) training is a novel training method that stimulates the human neuromuscular system and induces adaptive changes in the body. This systematic review evaluated the effects of WBV on cognitive function and found both positive and ineffective impacts. The majority of studies suggest that WBV may be a useful strategy for managing cognitive impairment, but further research is needed.

Effects of Long-Term Aerobic Exercise on Perivascular Adipose Tissue Function and Akt/eNOS/NO Pathway in Obese Rats

Chaoge Wang, Jie Zhou, Dongdong Gao, Yarong Wang, Lianmeng Guo, Wenhao Liang, Niujin Shi, Ran Cheng, Han Wang, Junhao Huang, Jingwen Liao, Min Hu

Summary: This study evaluated the effect of long-term aerobic exercise on the function of perivascular adipose tissue (PVAT) in obese rats and the potential regulatory factors involved. The results showed that long-term aerobic exercise restored abnormalities in circulating biomarkers, systemic inflammation, and circulating adipokines in obese rats (P < 0.05). Furthermore, exercise significantly increased the production of NO and promoted the phosphorylation levels of Akt (Ser473) and eNOS (Ser1177) in PVAT (P < 0.05).
