Summary: The main objective of this study was to prepare functional allopurinol incorporated biomaterials using mungbean starch, polyvinyl alcohol, melanin, and plasticizers. The prepared biomaterials were characterized and evaluated for their photothermal conversion efficiencies and ALP release properties under NIR laser irradiation. The results showed that the addition of melanin resulted in higher temperature increase and faster ALP release rates. The mechanism of ALP release differed when using an artificial skin.

Summary: Molecules with fluorine-containing functional groups exhibit excellent properties in the field of energetic materials due to their strong electron-withdrawing ability and high density of fluorine. This review focuses on three types of energetic materials containing fluorine-containing functional groups, including trinitromethyl groups (C(NO2)(2)F, C(NO2)(2)NF2), trifluoromethyl group (CF3), and difluoroamino and pentafluorosulfone groups (NF2, SF5), and investigates their synthetic methods, physicochemical parameters, and energetic properties. The incorporation of fluorine-containing functional groups is critical for the development of novel high energy density materials and is rapidly being adopted in the design of energetic materials.

Summary: The white-backed planthopper (WBPH), Sogatella furcifera, is a major pest of rice. Traditional chemical methods for controlling this pest pose risks of pesticide resistance and environmental damage. This study explored the use of nanoparticle-encapsulated dsRNAs as an alternative method for sustainable pest management, and identified and characterized gene targets in the tyrosine-melanin pathway that affect WBPH body color, development, and mortality. By utilizing an Escherichia coli expression system and star polycation nanoparticles, a sprayable RNAi method targeting a specific gene, SfTH, was developed and resulted in high WBPH mortality rates on rice seedlings.
