Summary: The present study aimed to derive dietary patterns using reduced rank regression and investigate their association with the risk of developing metabolic syndrome and its components. The study found that a healthy dietary pattern was inversely associated with the incidence of metabolic syndrome, while an unhealthy dietary pattern was positively associated with its occurrence.

Summary: This study examined the association between children's diet and PFAS, finding that intake of ice cream and soda was associated with higher plasma concentrations of specific PFAS. A dietary pattern consisting of primarily packaged foods and fish was identified to be correlated with higher PFAS concentrations. Further investigation is needed to inform measures to modify childhood PFAS exposure.

Summary: This study used reduced-rank regression (RRR) to study the effects of individual and combined consumption of foods on cardiovascular diseases (CVD). In the analysis of 116,711 CVD-free participants, it was found that higher intake of items such as beer, high-sugar beverages, processed meat, and red meat, and lower intake of items such as olive oil, high fiber breakfast cereals, tea, and vegetables were associated with increased risks of CVD and all-cause mortality. The associations were modified by age and sex.

Summary: This study found that an obesity-related dietary pattern is strongly associated with overall and multiple cancer sites. A higher score in the obesity-related dietary pattern is linearly associated with an increased risk of overall cancer and is also linked to specific cancers. These findings provide clues for future research directions.

Summary: This study compared partial least squares (PLS) and reduced rank regression (RRR) in identifying a dietary pattern associated with a high cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk and found that both methods were equally effective. Additionally, the identified dietary patterns were positively associated with higher energy intake and obesity risk.

Summary: Endocrine therapy has been effective in treating breast cancer, but it still faces challenges such as drug resistance and individual discrepancy. There is a demand for novel preventive and therapeutic modalities to decrease the incidence and mortality rate of breast cancer. G protein-coupled estrogen receptor (GPER) is a potential target for breast cancer prevention and treatment. This review discusses the possible mechanisms of GPER pathways and proposes the development of phytoestrogens-based dietary supplements against breast cancer.

Summary: Most current nutrition policies and dietary recommendations are based on research on individual nutrients' actions or health risks, but the actual dietary intakes in many countries, including the UK, are far from the recommended levels for good health. Food-based dietary patterns help target specific combinations of foods that are associated with disease risk, considering the coexistence of multiple nutrients within foods and their synergistic effects. Reduced rank regression is a useful exploratory approach that uses prior knowledge of the diet-disease pathway to identify dietary patterns associated with disease risk in a specific population.

Summary: Unhealthy diet and lifestyle contribute to an imbalance in cardiometabolic profiles among postmenopausal women. A study found that adherence to a dietary pattern characterized by high intakes of processed food, rice/flour products, organ meat, and sauce is associated with an increased risk of high blood pressure, triglycerides, and fasting blood glucose among postmenopausal Taiwanese women.

Summary: This study examines the association between rurality and positive childhood experiences (PCEs) among children and adolescents. The findings suggest that rural children are more likely to have experiences such as volunteering, having a guiding mentor, residing in a safe neighborhood, and residing in a supportive neighborhood compared to urban children. These findings highlight the importance of increasing opportunities for PCEs in urban communities.

Summary: The aim of this study was to examine changes in body weight and fat in Black and White women during the first postpartum year and to determine whether there is preferential retention of fat mass and abdominal fat. Body composition was measured using dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry in Black and White women at 6 to 8 weeks, 6 months, and 12 months after delivery. The findings showed that Black women were less likely than White women to lose weight and fat in the postpartum period, and there was preferential retention of fat in the abdominal area.

Summary: This study utilized data from the POLAR trial to determine therapy-induced change in naming ability and the long-term maintenance of naming gains, as well as the impact of aphasia severity, age, education, time postonset, and cognitive reserve on naming gains at different time points. The results showed that naming performance significantly improved after therapy, and aphasia severity, age, and time postonset were important predictors of naming improvement and retention.

Summary: This study examined the associations between neighborhood socioeconomic status (NSES), walkability, green space, and incident falls among postmenopausal women. The study found that NSES was associated with falling, while walkability and green space were not. The relationships between walkability and green space and falling were modified by race and ethnicity, age, fall history, and climate region. Overall, the importance of this study is rated 8 out of 10.

Summary: This study evaluated the initial feasibility and preliminary efficacy of providing children a free summer day camp and a parent intervention to improve self-regulation and mitigate accelerated summer BMI gain. However, the established criteria for feasibility and efficacy were not met due to COVID-19 and lack of transportation. Despite this, providing structured summer programming to mitigate accelerated summer BMI gain may be an effective strategy, but further pilot work is needed to ensure children attend the programming.

It was found that there are weaker associations between diet quality and T2D incidence among individuals with lower socioeconomic status, suggesting that other factors play a larger role in T2D incidence in this population.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to identify the factors associated with physical activity levels of children during participation in a youth soccer program. Observations and recordings showed that children were more likely to engage in moderate or vigorous physical activity during fitness, game, warm-up, and drill activities compared to tactic/instructional activities. These associations were consistent across girls-only, boys-only, and coed teams.
