We demonstrate a novel self-holding function of a magneto-optical waveguide switch. The switching state is flipped by a pulsed current and maintained without any power supply by virtue of the nonvolatility of the thin-film magnet. Extinction ratios up to 15.4 dB were demonstrated. The switch state was controlled by a 1-mu s pulsed electrical current.
