Steroid (glucocorticoid)-induced osteonecrosis of the femoral head (SONFH) is a metabolic disease that occurs due to the use of glucocorticoid drugs, leading to impaired blood supply to the femoral head and death of bone cells and bone marrow composition, which in turn lead to structural change, collapse of the femoral head, and articular dysfunction. SONFH is a challenging disorder to treat in adults due to frequent collapse of the femoral head and dysfunction of the hip joint. Eventually, patients require joint arthroplasty surgery, which severely impairs the patients' quality of life. However, the exactly pathogenesis of SONFH is still not clear. Recently, as the development of precision medicine and lucubrating on stem cell and molecular biology, the exact pathogenesis of SONFH is being investigated and more new treatments are being explored. This review article discusses five major theories about the pathogenesis of SONFH.

Promotion of tendon growth into implant through pore-size design of a Ti-6Al-4 V porous scaffold prepared by 3D printing

Yuhao Zheng, Qing Han, Dongdong Li, Fan Sheng, Zhiming Song, Jincheng Wang

Summary: No suitable method exists for tendon fixation after artificial prosthetic implantation, but researching optimal factors for biological fixation between the tendon and prosthesis is crucial. Selective laser melting (SLM) 3D printing was used to prepare scaffolds with different actual pore sizes, with 527.15 μm being the most effective in cell experiments. Implantation of these scaffolds in a rabbit model showed that 527.15 μm is the best pore size for promoting tendon ingrowth on a titanium alloy surface.

Genome-wide regulation of Pol II, FACT, and Spt6 occupancies by RSC in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

Emily Biernat, Mansi Verma, Chhabi K. Govind

Summary: RSC is an essential ATP-dependent chromatin remodeling complex in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. It regulates nucleosome-depleted regions (NDRs) by sliding flanking nucleosomes away from NDRs. Depletion of RSC leads to nucleosome encroachment in NDRs and transcription initiation defects. The study compared the effects of catalytic-dead Sth1 and rapid depletion of Sth1 on transcription. Rapid depletion of Sth1 reduces recruitment of TBP and Pol II, while the catalytic-dead mutant exhibits a severe reduction in TBP binding but accumulates Pol II in coding regions. The results suggest a role for RSC in transcription elongation and termination processes.

miR-124-3p regulates the involvement of Ptpn1 in testicular development and spermatogenesis in mouse

Lvjing Luo, Lishuang Sun, Shu Li, Huiting Liu, Zhengyu Chen, Shi Huang, Yinyin Mo, Genliang Li

Summary: This study analyzed the expression of Ptpn1 and miR-124-3p in testicular tissues of mice and investigated their regulatory relationship. The results showed that Ptpn1 expression was up-regulated in adult mouse testis compared to juvenile mouse testis, while miR-124-3p expression showed an opposite pattern.
