Summary: The study found that breast cancer patients with multiple sclerosis had lower overall survival compared to those without multiple sclerosis, but there was no significant difference in cancer-specific survival. Future research should validate these findings in other populations and identify multiple sclerosis-specific factors associated with poorer prognosis.

Summary: This study aimed to assess how age at diagnosis modifies the associations between type 2 diabetes and cancer risk. Data from the Yinzhou Health Information System was used, including 42,279 individuals diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and 166,010 age- and sex-matched control individuals without diabetes. The results showed that the associations of type 2 diabetes with cancer incidence and mortality varied by age at diagnosis, with a higher relative risk among patients who were diagnosed at a younger age.

Summary: In the early period after a colorectal cancer diagnosis, individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS) have lower overall and cancer-specific survival rates compared to those without MS. Further research is needed to identify the factors underlying these poorer outcomes.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the association of nutritional support with in-hospital mortality and other clinical outcomes in a nationwide inpatient cancer population. The results showed that in hospitalized cancer patients, those who received nutritional support had lower in-hospital mortality and were less likely to be discharged to a post-acute care facility compared to those who did not receive nutritional support.

Summary: This study conducted a nationwide cohort study to investigate the survival patterns of patients with incident systemic sclerosis (SSc) in Sweden. The results showed that the survival rate of SSc patients diagnosed between 2004 and 2015 was significantly lower compared to the general population, despite advances in understanding and diagnosing the disease.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the mortality risk in patients with nonfunctional adrenal adenomas (NFAA) and different levels of mild autonomous cortisol secretion (MACS) to matched controls. The results showed that there was no significant difference in mortality between patients with NFAA and their controls, while patients with higher levels of MACS, especially younger patients and those with cortisol(DST) >= 83 nmol/L, had significantly increased mortality risk compared to controls.

Summary: This study found that intimate partner violence (IPV) identified in criminal justice records is associated with an increased risk of subsequent intentional injury, including violent death, inflicted by others. IPV victims experienced lower risk of subsequent intentional injury if the accused received a probation sentence. Justice involvement represents an opportunity for collaborative prevention of subsequent intentional injury among IPV victims.

Summary: This study investigated the effectiveness and safety of COVID-19 convalescent plasma (CCP) in hospitalized COVID-19 patients in a multi-hospital healthcare system in Texas. The study found no significant difference in 28-day in-hospital all-cause mortality between the treatment and control groups, but CCP-treated patients were less likely to be discharged alive and more likely to receive mechanical ventilation. Safety outcomes were similar between the two groups.

Summary: Gut microbiota plays a pivotal role in human physiological functions and diseases, including the development and severity of COVID-19 symptoms. It is also involved in the immune responses to COVID-19 vaccinations. Understanding the role of gut microbiota in COVID-19 manifestations and vaccine immunogenicity is crucial for future research and interventions.

Summary: This population-based case-control study investigated the association between bullous pemphigoid (BP) and atopic dermatitis (AD) in Taiwan. The study found that AD was independently associated with BP, increasing the risk of developing BP by 76%. Other significant risk factors for BP included psoriasis, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, chronic kidney disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, neuropsychiatric diseases, and autoimmune connective tissue disease.
