The meaning of regional competitiveness has been changed recently to better fit the new development theme of green and sustainable. Correspondingly, the traditional regional competitiveness evaluation system, which pays too much attention to economic indicators, has not been able to fully evaluate regional green competitiveness. Based on the meaning of regional green competitiveness, we used correlation analysis, fuzzy rough set and entropy weight methods to select and analyze 21 indicators and develop a regional green competitiveness index. Indicators included measures of natural resources competitiveness, ecological environment competitiveness, energy consumption and energy saving competitiveness, economic and social sustainable competitiveness as well as human health competitiveness. Based on the green competitiveness index, we divided the green competitiveness spectrum into three levels (light green, medium green and dark green) to explore changes of the index in 30 provinces of China during the period 2004-2014. Results showed that ecological environment competitiveness and sustainable competitiveness of economy and society are two key factors that influence the green competitiveness of provinces in China. Green competitiveness also showed spatial differences, varying from high to low in a westerly direction from the eastern region, central region, northeast region and western region. Notably, the green competitiveness level of more than half of the provinces changed markedly, proving that the green competitiveness of the provinces can develop through leap-style changes.

Willingness to participate in take-out packaging waste recycling: Relationship among effort level, advertising effect, subsidy and penalty

Jiahui Yang, Ruyin Long, Hong Chen, Xiu Cheng

Summary: The management of take-out packaging waste has become an urgent need, and this study establishes a tripartite game model to analyze the evolution process of governments, consumers, and take-out platforms in the waste system. The study results show that government and take-out platforms' effort levels, advertising effects, and government policies have impacts on the evolution path of the system.

Who avoids being involved in personal carbon trading? An investigation based on the urban residents in eastern China

Daoyan Guo, Hong Chen, Ruyin Long, Shaohui Zou

Summary: The study established a hierarchical framework for urban residents' approach-avoidance responses to personal carbon trading, finding that respondents could be classified into five response hierarchies and exhibiting demographic differences and influences of psychological factors. Most of the residents with the most avoidance response were young males, older first-line employees, and those on subsistence incomes. Residents with egoistic values, low senses of social responsibility, little knowledge about carbon reductions, and a preference for comfortable life were more likely to avoid the scheme and participation.

Public psychological distance and spatial distribution characteristics during the COVID-19 pandemic: a Chinese context

Meifen Wu, Ruyin Long, Hong Chen

Summary: This study explored the cognitive distance, emotional distance, expected distance, and behavioral distance of the Chinese public in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic from the perspective of psychological distance (PD). The study found that the government was the most appealing subject in pandemic prevention and control, but the public's sense of closeness to the government was lower than that of other subjects. Different pandemic regions showed significant differences in PD, with high-risk regions having higher PD mean scores than medium-risk and low-risk regions. No spatial autocorrelation was found in PD globally, but high-value regions with distant PD were mainly in southern regions and low-value regions with close PD were mainly in North China.

Summary: Phenology monitoring is important for understanding forest functioning and climate impacts. This research compares the phenological behavior of European beech forests using Tree-Talker (TT+) and Sentinel 2 satellite data. The study finds differences in the information derived by the two sensor types, particularly in terms of season length, phenology changepoints, and leaf period variability. TT+ with its higher temporal resolution demonstrates precision in capturing the phenological changepoints, especially when satellite image availability is limited.
