Summary: EBUS-TBNA, as the procedure of choice for sampling hilar and mediastinal adenopathy, has been studied extensively in the last two decades. New ultrasound scanning modes and tools have been introduced to optimize target lymph node selection and sampling, potentially reducing passes, procedure time, and increasing diagnostic yield.

Summary: This article presents a case of right upper mediastinal schwannoma, including its diagnosis, treatment, and outcome. The patient underwent EBUS-TBNA, which provided cell blocks for pathological examination, confirming the diagnosis of schwannoma. Surgical excision was performed based on the EBUS-TBNA and postsurgical pathology results. The patient had an uneventful recovery and remained symptom-free during the 4-year follow-up period.

Summary: Endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA) is a safe and accurate diagnostic procedure for investigating mediastinal pathologies. This study compared the accuracy and safety of EBUS-TBNA through the nasal route with the oral route, and found that the nasal route is a valid alternative with similar outcomes.

Summary: This study evaluated the value of EBUS-TBNA in diagnosing intrathoracic lymphadenopathy in patients with extrathoracic malignancies. The results showed that EBUS-TBNA has high sensitivity and accuracy, making it a simple and effective diagnostic method for patients with extrathoracic malignancies.

Summary: A retrospective analysis was conducted to evaluate the diagnostic value of all-shot aspirations and no-tissue-core aspirations in endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration procedures. The results showed that patients with all-shot aspirations were more likely to have a pathologic and clinical diagnosis of malignancy compared to patients with no-tissue-core aspirations. It is important to take additional measures to exclude malignancy in all-shot patients when the endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration was nondiagnostic.

Summary: This case report describes a 28-year-old male with mediastinal cyst diagnosed as lymphangioma through EBUS examination, with subsequent infection after the procedure and recovery following treatment. EBUS-TBNA is a useful tool for mediastinal cyst management but requires careful execution to avoid complications.

Summary: Advancements in personalized medicine have increased the demand for tissue preservation and quantity in EBUS-TBNA samples. This study compared the characteristics, diagnostic accuracy, and patient safety of the SonoTip TopGain(R) and ViziShot 2(R) needles. The results showed that when cartilage penetration was avoided, the SonoTip TopGain(R) needle allowed for sampling of more material.

Summary: The combination of EBUS elastography and ROSE significantly increased the diagnostic value of EBUS-TBNA in evaluating lymph node status. A study on 245 patients showed that the sensitivity and specificity of the EBUS elastography combined with ROSE group were 86.61% and 92.65%, with an area under the curve of 0.942.

Summary: Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide, and accurate nodal staging is crucial for determining treatment strategies. This paper proposes a fast, efficient, and fully automatic deep convolutional neural network system for advanced lung cancer staging using EBUS-TBNA cytological WSIs. The method achieves high precision and sensitivity in experiments, outperforming state-of-the-art models and reducing computational time compared to other methods.

Summary: The study aimed to determine the optimal number of punctures and core tissues during EBUS-TBNA for NGS in patients with non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) as well as the association of chest computed tomography (CT) and EBUS findings with successful NGS. The success rate of NGS was 83.3%, with the number of core tissues (>= 4) being the sole predictor of successful NGS. CT and EBUS findings were not associated with successful NGS.

Summary: Infectious complications following EBUS-TBNA are rare but serious, as illustrated by a case of delayed mediastinitis and tracheomediastinal fistula reported here. Surgical debridement and antibiotic therapy led to a successful postoperative recovery, emphasizing the importance of careful monitoring to prevent such complications.
