Summary: This study used group concept mapping to describe and conceptualize high-quality care for long-stay pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) patients. Through the analysis of 265 prompt responses, 8 domains of high-quality care were identified, including family-centered care and shared decision making, humanizing the patient, clinician supports and resources, multidisciplinary coordination of care, family well-being, anticipatory guidance and care planning, communication, and continuity of care.

Summary: This study investigated the hospital variation in postoperative length of ICU stay after MIE in Dutch hospitals, finding significant differences among hospitals. Short ICU stay was associated with shorter overall hospital admission and did not negatively impact short-term surgical outcomes. Therefore, a more selective use of ICU resources could lead to a significant national cost reduction.

Summary: This study examines the relationship between the length of time ventilated patients spend in short-term acute care hospitals (STACH) before being transferred to long-term acute care hospitals (LTACH) and their weaning success and mortality rates. The findings suggest that discharging ventilated patients earlier from STACH to LTACH is associated with a higher probability of weaning from mechanical ventilation.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the relationship between frailty index and length of hospital stay, and death in a non-COVID population of patients aged 75 years old and above. The results showed a significant association between frailty index and mortality, but it was not significant in predicting length of stay.

Summary: According to the World Health Organization (WHO), patient Length of Stay (LOS) in hospitals is an important performance measurement and monitoring indicator. Prolonged LOS in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) may lead to consuming hospital resources, manpower, and equipment. The proposed framework for predicting patient LOS in the ICU using different machine learning (ML) techniques demonstrates high prediction accuracy and applicability across all patients.

Summary: This study examined comorbidities predictive of length of stay, hospital costs, and mortality in immobile ischemic stroke patients. The Charlson Comorbidity Index was found to be significantly predictive for clinical outcomes. Population aging highlights the importance of identifying, monitoring, and managing chronic comorbidities in immobile stroke populations.

Summary: Hospital malnutrition affects a significant portion of patients, and early assessment using the CONUT score can help predict hospital outcomes. This study aimed to determine the predictive role of the CONUT score in an Italian hospital, finding that CONUT was a reliable predictor of length of stay and in-hospital mortality.

Summary: This paper presents predictive models for the length of stay (LOS) of ICU patients using machine learning and early available clinical data. The goal was to demonstrate a practical approach to predicting LOS and improve resource allocation and future planning. The results show significant improvements in the performance of the models for predicting actual LOS.

Summary: This study examined the clinical and haemodynamic variables associated with early adverse outcomes after the neonatal Norwood procedure. The results showed that early postoperative haemodynamic variables can predict the length of stay in the intensive care unit (ICU) and suggest that good early postoperative haemodynamics contribute to early recovery. Prolonged stay in the ICU after the Norwood procedure was associated with late mortality.

Summary: The study evaluated the characteristics and outcomes of octogenarians, nonagenarians, and elderly patients in nephrology ICU, with findings showing no significant differences in the need for various treatments between age groups. Mortality in ICU was not significantly different among age groups, but one-month mortality rate after discharge was higher in nonagenarians. Length of ICU stay and hospital cost did not differ by age, but mortality risk was higher for nonagenarians post-discharge.

Summary: The pathophysiology of stroke is complex, involving multiple pathways and risk factors. Genetic variants and biological pathways associated with stroke could provide new therapeutic alternatives. Various studies have identified genetic loci associated with stroke through different approaches, and analytical techniques can help evaluate stroke risk factors and determine treatment priorities. Combining genetic risk factors and lifestyle risk factors can detect stroke risk early and aid in preventive interventions.

Summary: This study examined the management, outcomes, and resource use of frail patients hospitalized for ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). The findings showed that frail patients had lower odds of overall revascularization and coronary angiography, but higher odds of receiving coronary artery bypass grafting and hemodynamic support. Frail patients also had higher in-hospital mortality, longer length of stay, and higher costs. The study suggests that collaborative efforts can improve management strategies, resource use, and patient outcomes.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the relationship between individual votes and Panel recommendations in the premarket review process of medical devices. It found that non-physicians, non-biostatisticians, experienced Panelists, and more talkative members are likely to vote against the majority. The presence of biostatisticians on Panels increases voting consensus. Having a diversity of opinions, including those likely to dissent from majority views, helps ensure diverse perspectives are considered before decision-making.

Summary: Myocarditis is significantly associated with higher in-hospital mortality and adverse hospital outcomes among patients with COVID-19. The rate of in-hospital mortality is higher in COVID-19 hospitalizations with myocarditis, and the survival rate is lower. Myocarditis is also significantly associated with increased odds of cardiac arrest, cardiogenic shock, mechanical ventilation, and acute respiratory distress syndrome. Early suspicion of myocarditis is important for prompt diagnosis and management.

Summary: This study compared the 30-day readmission rates of laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (LRYGB) and laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) using a national dataset. The study found that the readmission rates were significantly higher in the LRYGB group compared to the LSG group. Factors such as age, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, hypertension, bleeding disorders, blood urea nitrogen, SGOT, alkaline phosphatase, hematocrit, and operation time were found to predict readmission rates.

Summary: This study reveals the relationship between habitual sleep duration, cardiovascular health (CVH), and their impact on healthcare costs and resource utilization. It shows that individuals with 6-8.9 hours and >= 9 hours of sleep are more likely to achieve optimal goals for diet, physical activity, body mass index, and blood pressure. Compared to those who sleep less than 6 hours, individuals with 6-8.9 hours and >= 9 hours of sleep have lower cardiovascular health risks. Furthermore, individuals with 6 or more hours of sleep have lower healthcare expenditures and reduced likelihood of emergency room visits and hospitalizations.
