Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence and risk factors of hyperuricemia (HUA) in the urban health checkup population in Urumqi, Xinjiang, and provide clues for its prevention. The study showed a high prevalence of HUA, particularly among men and youth. Early intervention for HUA should be enhanced to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and other related conditions.

Summary: The study aims to analyze the prevalence of hyperuricemia (HU) and its association with cardiovascular risk factors, subclinical target organ damage, and cardiovascular diseases. The adjusted logistic regression models showed that HU was associated with pathological glomerular filtration rate, heart failure, abdominal obesity, hypertension, use of thiazides, left ventricular hypertrophy, atrial fibrillation, and albuminuria. On the other hand, being female showed a reduced risk of HU. These associations suggest that HU might be a part of the early stages of the cardiovascular continuum.

Summary: This study investigated the epidemiology of chronic mountain sickness (CMS) in high-altitude immigrants and evaluated the prevalence of high-altitude polycythemia (HAPC) and hyperuricemia (HUA), as well as the risk factors for HUA. The results showed that immigrants are more susceptible to HAPC and HUA. The high prevalence of CMS among immigrants may be associated with hemoglobin concentration, age, and sex.

Summary: The prevalence of hyperuricemia in the Pearl River Delta region of Guangdong Province in China is relatively high, with higher rates in men than in women. Risk factors for hyperuricemia include hypertension, high BMI, age, and levels of glucose, triglycerides, and total cholesterol. Governmental bodies should focus on early diagnosis, treatment, and intervention.

Summary: This study focuses on the burden of and associations with lower extremity disease (LED) among individuals with known cardiovascular disease risk factors (CVDRFs) in Malawi, a low-income country. The results showed that a quarter of the participants had at least one symptom or sign of LED, highlighting the importance of further research to prevent LED and limb loss.

Summary: In Dutch broiler flocks, a heterogeneous population of (pESI-carrying) S. Infantis has been established with evidence of possible vertical transmission. These bacteria exhibit resistance to multiple antibiotics, with certain feed, antibiotic use, and cleaning practices posing risk factors. Further monitoring and control measures are recommended to address this issue.

Summary: Knowledge of the epidemiology of chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is essential for patient care, including accurate diagnosis and treatment decisions. The current evidence suggests that the prevalence of CRS is consistently less than 5%, with about one-third of CRS patients having nasal polyps. The classification of CRS endotypes, mainly related to type 2 or non-type 2 inflammation, varies significantly by region. The epidemiology of CRS is influenced by various risk factors, such as genetics, demographics, environment, and comorbid diseases. Understanding these relationships can improve the diagnosis and treatment of CRS.

Summary: According to a study, the prevalence of pelvic floor disorders (PFD) in adult women is influenced by factors such as age, race, BMI, and parity. Bowel dysfunction is the most common PFD, followed by urinary incontinence (UI) and pelvic organ prolapse (POP). Older age and higher BMI are associated with an increased risk of PFD, except for BMI and prolapse.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to assess the prevalence and identify the risk factors of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in the Chinese adult population. Data from a nationally representative sample of Chinese adults were collected, and the overall prevalence of GERD was found to be 5.6%. Women, smokers, older individuals, those with higher BMI, urban residents, individuals with lower education level or comorbidities were more likely to have GERD. Symptoms of severe periodontitis and lower frequency of tooth brushing were significantly associated with the risk of GERD.

Summary: The study found that the prevalence of chalazia was highest in coastal regions and was associated with factors such as smoking, tear film disorders, periocular skin conditions, allergies, and systemic disorders. Abnormalities in periocular skin, eyelid margin, and tear film were most strongly associated with the risk for chalazion, suggesting a need for further study on the impact of environmental conditions on chalazion risk.

Summary: This study evaluates the real-world effectiveness of regdanvimab on clinical outcomes in patients with mild to moderate COVID-19. The results show that the usage of regdanvimab is associated with a decreased probability of requiring additional therapies, such as remdesivir, dexamethasone, and oxygen supplementation. However, there is no significant difference in symptom severity score with the drug usage.

Summary: Previous studies on predicting type 2 diabetes risk by integrating clinical and genetic factors have mainly focused on the Western population. This study used genome-wide polygenic risk score (gPRS) and serum metabolite data to predict type 2 diabetes risk in the Asian population. The results showed that incorporating both gPRS and metabolite data led to more accurate prediction of type 2 diabetes risk.
