A series of amphiphilic hierarchically meso/macroporous phosphotungstic acid (HPW)/SiO2 materials have been synthesized via a facile post treatment strategy and used as a catalyst for oxidative desulfurization (ODS). The SEM and TEM images revealed that as-prepared catalysts possessed a well-defined meso/macroporous structure and the average pore size of macropores and mesopores were estimated to be 210 and 2.79 nm, respectively. In addition, the existence of the ordered mesoporous structure was further confirmed by Small-angle XRD and N-2 adsorption-desorption. The wild-angle XRD and FT-IR spectra proved Keggin-type HPW incorporated into the silica matrix. The lipophilicity of catalysts was tested by the contact angle, which exhibited that the lipophilicity of catalysts had been improved increased with the usage of modifier. The dibenzothiophene removal of amphiphilic hierarchically porous HPW/SiO2 catalysts indicated that there was an optimum hydrophilic-ipophilic balance in ODS. The excellent performance in oxidative desulfurization can be ascribed to the advantages of the peculiar hierarchically meso/macroporous structure and the lipophilicity of catalyst which promoted the mass transport of aromatic sulfide in the pore channel and model fuel effectively. Moreover, the catalyst also exhibited excellent reusability with only slight performance decrease after regenerating for over 6 cycles. [GRAPHICS] .

Summary: DIII-D physics research addresses critical challenges for the operation of ITER and the next generation of fusion energy devices by focusing on innovations for high performance long pulse operation and fundamental plasma physics understanding. The research has led to substantial improvements in off-axis current drive efficiency and Alfven eigenmode control, as well as validated models for pedestal recovery after ELMs and disruption mitigation techniques. The findings provide confidence in optimizing future tokamak operation and handling disruptivity.

Genetic diversity of Echinococcus granulosus sensu lato in China: Epidemiological studies and systematic review

Rui-Qi Hua, Xiao-Di Du, Xue He, Xiao-Bin Gu, Yue Xie, Ran He, Jing Xu, Xue-Rong Peng, Guang-You Yang

Summary: Cystic echinococcosis (CE) is a major public health concern globally, with unique genetic diversity in China. The genetic composition of E. granulosus s.l. in China is mainly G1 and G3, with G1 being the most common genotype, predominantly found in sheep and yaks. Surveillance and research on other potential host species, such as pigs, cattle, goats, and camels, have been largely overlooked in China.

Modelling the Alfv ′en eigenmode induced fast-ion flow measured by an imaging neutral particle analyzer

J. Gonzalez-Martin, X. D. Du, W. W. Heidbrink, M. A. Van Zeeland, K. Saerkimaeki, A. Snicker, X. Wang, Y. Todo

Summary: An imaging neutral particle analyzer (INPA) was used to diagnose fast-ion flow driven by multiple marginally unstable Alfv ’en eigenmodes (AEs) in the DIII-D tokamak. Traditional energetic particle diffusivity modeling failed to interpret the observed fast ion depletion, while self-consistent multi-phase hybrid simulations were able to reproduce most features of the observed phase-space flow.

Summary: The study introduces a low-cost alternative to the standard Cambridge filter pad (CFP) for capturing particulate matter in mainstream smoke. The alternative filter is composed of a cellulose acetate fiber (CAF) interlayer and two cotton fiber (CF) layers, showing improved trapping performance and high affinity towards tobacco additives. This cost-effective CF/CAF/CF filter can potentially replace the CFP.

Summary: Toroidal modeling using MARS-K code reveals the presence of multiple branches of unstable internal kink modes triggered by the bounce resonance of trapped thermal ions in a high-performance DIII-D discharge. Plasma toroidal flow and resistivity play crucial roles in stabilizing or destabilizing these modes.

Mode structure measurements of ion cyclotron emission and sub-cyclotron modes on DIII-D

G. H. DeGrandchamp, J. B. Lestz, M. A. Van Zeeland, X. D. Du, W. W. Heidbrink, K. E. Thome, N. A. Crocker, R. Pinsker

Summary: This study reports on mode structure measurements of coherent ion cyclotron emission (ICE) and sub-cyclotron modes on the DIII-D device. In L-mode plasmas, resonant peaks at harmonics of the ion cyclotron frequency were observed in the core of the plasma. Sub-cyclotron modes were also observed in L-mode plasmas when the toroidal magnetic field strength was lowered. In H-mode plasmas, ICE harmonics localized to the plasma edge were observed. Polarization estimates indicate compressional polarization at the plasma edge for both ICE and sub-cyclotron modes. The same harmonics were observed on both the centerpost and outer wall loops, indicating poloidal extension of ICE. Toroidal mode numbers were calculated for both core ICE and sub-cyclotron modes in L-mode plasmas.

Energetic particle-induced geodesic acoustic modes on DIII-D

D. J. Lin, W. W. Heidbrink, N. A. Crocker, X. D. Du, R. Nazikian, M. A. Van Zeeland, K. Barada

Summary: This study explores various properties of the energetic particle-induced geodesic acoustic mode (EGAM) using a large database analysis of DIII-D experimental data. The analysis reveals that EGAMs are most easily destabilized by counter plasma current beams and the mode frequency has a strong linear dependence on the safety factor. The stability of the mode is found to depend more on damping rate than on fast-ion drive.

Summary: The dependencies of Alfvenic instabilities driven by runaway electrons (REs) during current quench in DIII-D on plasma and material injection parameters were investigated. The observed instabilities in the frequency range of 0.1-3 MHz are correlated with increased RE loss and may play a role in non-sustained RE beams.

Catalyst-Support Interactions Promoted Acidic Electrochemical Oxygen Evolution Catalysis: A Mini Review

Zijie Luo, Jia Wang, Wei Zhou, Junsheng Li

Summary: In the context of growing demand for green secondary energy sources, the development of stable, efficient, and low-cost oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalysts is crucial for proton-exchange membrane water electrolysis (PEMWE) to produce high-purity hydrogen for proton-exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). Precious metals remain irreplaceable in acidic OER catalysis, and loading the support body with precious metal components is an effective strategy to reduce costs. This review discusses the role of common catalyst-support interactions in modulating catalyst structure and performance, promoting the development of high-performance, high-stability, low-cost noble metal-based acidic OER catalysts.

Summary: Transport of fast ions in plasma is studied at different regimes below, near, and above the Alfvén eigenmode stability threshold. Below the threshold, fast ions are well-confined without noticeable transport. Near the threshold, fast ions exhibit transport through AE-driven flow along streamlines. Above the threshold, fast ions show strong critical gradient behavior with prompt transport along streamlines.
