Summary: In the Loess Plateau region, loess is commonly used as a filling material for dams. This study focuses on the shear performance of loess filler in dams, as it can affect the overall strength of loess dams. The experiments explore the shear failure characteristics of the filler under different conditions, such as water content, confining pressure, and dry density. The findings reveal that remolded loess is prone to shear expansion failure under certain conditions, and the failure process of a loess dam is influenced by water level and pressure.

Summary: The geomechanical response of a porous reservoir to fluid injection is complex and can be predicted using simplified analytical models or detailed numerical simulations. The study compares analytical and numerical solutions for fluid and temperature fronts, finding qualitative agreement for some quantities but not others. While the LaForce et al. (2014a,b) solutions are useful for rapid investigation, MOOSE software offers enhancements for more sophisticated analyses and should be preferred.

Summary: This study investigates the desorption behavior of methane in coal seams after injecting N2 gas. The results show that N2 can promote the desorption of methane by competitive adsorption. Higher injection pressure and temperature of N2 lead to more significant desorption. Additionally, the water content in coal also enhances methane desorption.

Summary: The study developed a geostatistical optimization model for 3D mapping of subsurface stratification and SPT-N value. It was applied to a dam emergency spillway site in South Korea, and effective results were obtained compared to conventional approaches. Geospatial database development, reconstitution of target grid volume, and detection of outliers in the borehole dataset were performed prior to 3D modeling.

Summary: This paper proposes a novel method of 3D multipoint geostatistical inversion based on 2D training images directly. The 2D training image is scanned to acquire the multipoint statistical probability, which is then fused into the 3D probability. The rock facies types and patterns are obtained through random sampling. The iterative adaptive spatial sampling method is used to ensure that the error is below a given threshold.

Summary: Embankment rockfill dams are the most common type of dams used in the world today, with one third of failures caused by dam slope instability. The stability of the dam is assessed through analysis of pore and total pressure data from pressure measurement cells. A new method using artificial neural networks has been developed to predict pore pressure on malfunctioning cells, resulting in more precise predicted values compared to using only one network.

Summary: Plastic pallets are essential for transporting industrial products within containers and can be more environmentally friendly when made from recycled plastics. By using a baffle cooling system and multiple filling gates, large-size pallets can be injection molded with lower locking force. The sequential valve gate opening scheme reduces welding lines, decreases filling pressure, and minimizes warpage of the pallet compared to the concurrent valve gate opening scheme.

Summary: This paper proposed a comprehensive numerical model to predict the responses of conventional SAGD wells and VWA-SAGD wells under hot water injection. The major conclusions include the existence of three relatively narrow separate transition zones effectively heated, the vertical well influencing reservoir deformation and caprock uplift, and the beneficial effects of VWA-SAGD technique on porosity improvement and steam chamber propagation.
