Background: The prognostic value of preoperative controlling nutritional status (CONUT) has been reported in many malignancies. In present study, we aimed to clarify the prognostic impact of CONUT in gastric cancer (GC) receiving curative resection and adjuvant chemotherapy. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 697 consecutive patients undergoing curative surgery followed by adjuvant chemotherapy for Stage II-III GC between November 2000 and September 2012. Patients were classified into high (>= 3) and low (<= 2) CONUT groups according to the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis. Results: Of the included patients, 217 (31.1%) belonged to the high CONUT group. The high CONUT group had a significantly lower 5-year cancer-specific survival (CSS) rate than the low CONUT group (39.3 vs. 55.5%, P < 0.001). High CONUT score was significantly associated with larger tumor size, more lymph node metastasis, and poorer nutritional status, including lower body mass index (BMI), higher prognostic nutritional index (PNI) and the presence of preoperative anemia (all P < 0.05). Multivariate analysis revealed that CONUT score was an independent prognostic factor (HR: 1553; 95% CI: 1.080-2.232; P = 0.017). Of note, in the low PNI group, CONUT score still effectively stratified CSS (P = 0.016). Furthermore, the prognostic significance of CONUT score was also maintained when stratified by TNM stage (all P < 0.05). Conclusions: CONUT score is considered a useful nutritional marker for predicting prognosis in stage II-III GC patients undergoing curative resection and adjuvant chemotherapy, and may help to facilitate the planning of preoperative nutritional interventions.

Levels of pretreatment serum lipids predict responses to PD-1 inhibitor treatment in advanced intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma

Zhenyun Yang, Deyao Zhang, Xiaoxian Sima, Yizhen Fu, Huilan Zeng, Zili Hu, Jingyu Hou, Yangxun Pang, Yaojun Zhang, Zhongguo Zhou, Minshan Chen, Dandan Hu

Summary: This study aimed to clarify the prognostic value of serum lipids and establish an effective nomogram for predicting overall survival in iCCA patients receiving anti-PD1 therapy. The results showed that serum lipid levels were associated with patient prognosis, with APOA1 and TG being significant independent predictors for overall survival in multivariate analysis. By constructing a predictive nomogram, the survival rate of iCCA patients can be more accurately predicted.

Recycling End-of-Life RO Membranes for NF Membranes via Layer-by-Layer Assembly and Interfacial Polymerization

Junbo Cui, Yingbo Chen, Pengfei Guo, Wenxuan Su, Linzhe Xu, Yuanyuan Zhang

Summary: In order to address the issue of environmental pollution caused by waste reverse osmosis (RO) membranes, we recycled and reused the end-of-life RO membrane as a nanofiltration (NF) membrane through a cleaning-healing-interfacial polymerization (IP) method. The influence of different repair methods on the subsequent IP process and the performance of the NF membrane were discussed. The NF membrane prepared with 2.0 layers of self-assembled healed membranes showed excellent long-term stability, fouling resistance, and high rejection rates for Na2SO4 solutions of different concentrations, indicating its potential as a tight nanofiltration membrane. This work provides an economic and environmentally friendly approach for the future treatment of waste RO membrane modules.

Preparation of thin-film composite membrane with Turing structure by PEO-assisted interfacial polymerization combined with choline chloride modification to improve permeability

Wenxuan Su, Lei Liu, Yingbo Chen, Junbo Cui, Xinyu Zhao

Summary: In this study, the speed of the interfacial polymerization reaction was controlled by controlling the diffusion rate of the aqueous monomer, thereby affecting the thickness and surface morphology of the polyamide layer. Polyethylene oxide (PEO) was added to increase the viscosity of the aqueous phase and slow down the reaction rate. Choline chloride (CC) was then grafted onto the surface of the polyamide membrane for secondary modification. The addition of 1% PEO resulted in the best performance of the composite membrane, and after CC modification, the rejection rate of (NaSO4)-S-2 was more than 96% with a permeation flux of 125.9 L/(m(2)center dot h center dot MPa). This composite membrane has potential applications in seawater desalination and sewage purification.

Meng Wang, Yingbo Chen, Wenxuan Su, Ke Zhao, Xianshe Feng

Summary: This study proposed a new method to enhance the treatment performance of chromium-containing wastewater by using sodium alginate (SA) encapsulated nano zero-valent iron particles (nZVI) loaded in the pores of aminated spherical magnesium hydroxide (MH-NH2). The prepared ternary composite showed great stability and dispersibility, and exhibited high efficiency in removing Cr(VI) from the solution under acidic conditions.

Fracture Identification Using Conventional Logs in Ultra-Low Permeability Sandstone Reservoirs: A Case Study of the Chang 6 Member of the Ordos Basin, China

Shanbin He, Kun Meng, Ce Wang, Yingbo Chen, Hao Zhao, Haoyuan Wang, Hongyan Yu

Summary: The identification of reservoir fractures is crucial for designing a field development plan and improving the efficiency of hydrocarbon production. However, the lack of understanding of fracture development patterns in tight oil reservoirs in the Triassic Change 6 member of Y well area, Ordos Basin, China has led to issues such as water flooding and water channeling. This study analyzed cores from 20 wells, fractures, and outcrop profiles to identify controlling factors for fracture development and establish a fracture prediction method using conventional logging data. The findings indicate that fractures in this area have high angles, nearly east-west orientations, small spacing, small openings, small down-cutting depths, and a low filling rate. Thin beds and fine sandstones are prone to fracture development, and the modified curve change rate method is effective for fracture prediction in the Triassic Change 6 member tight sandstone reservoirs in the Y well area, Ordos Basin, China.

Summary: This study successfully prepared a flexible bifunctional material UiO-66-NH-SO3H with hydrophilic functionalized metal-organic frameworks, which was used to enhance the proton conductivity of proton exchange membranes (PEMs). By creating acid-base pairing interaction between UiO-66-NH-SO3H and SPEEK, an effective proton conduction channel was constructed, leading to high proton conductivity in the composite PEMs. The UiO-66-NH-SO3H/SPEEK = 40% composite PEMs showed the lowest methanol permeability and the highest proton selectivity.

Yujia Feng, Qinghua Zhou, Feifei Mou, Yingbo Chen, Zhijing Xu

Summary: By comparing the blood specimens of 124 asthma patients, 124 chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients, and 124 asthma-chronic obstructive pulmonary disease overlap syndrome patients, it was found that high mobility group box 1 levels were significantly elevated in the overlap syndrome group. High mobility group box 1 levels were also correlated with inflammation markers and lung function. Therefore, high mobility group box 1 is of clinical significance in the diagnosis and treatment of asthma-chronic obstructive pulmonary disease overlap syndrome.

Chuanfeng Wang, Yingbo Chen, Meng Wang, Renhao Guo

Summary: A dual-layer PVDF loose nanofiltration hollow fiber membrane was designed and optimized through an online-coating device, and then cross-linked to improve solvent stability. The cross-linking process improved the stability in polar solvents with a slight decrease in thermal stability and mechanical properties. The prepared membranes showed excellent rejection of Rose bengal in various solvents and great stability for treatment of RB/ethanol solution, indicating their potential for organic solvent nanofiltration applications.
