Summary: This study used whole-body imaging with [I-123]MIBG to investigate the absorption of cationic anticancer drugs and medicines in the gastrointestinal tract. The results showed different uptake mechanisms mediated by OCTN and OCT, which were affected by inhibitors L-carnitine and cimetidine. Furthermore, the accumulation of [I-123]MIBG was significantly altered in DSS-induced experimental colitis mice and mice with cimetidine loading. Therefore, [I-123]MIBG imaging can be used to estimate gastrointestinal absorption via OCTN and/or OCT in the small intestine.

Summary: A self-ablating nanoparticle was designed for oral drug delivery to treat diabetes. The nanoparticle had a core-shell structure and was modified with a cationic compound to improve intestinal uptake. The results showed that the self-ablating nanoparticles had higher encapsulation ability and stability, and entered cells through more uptake pathways. In in vivo and in vitro experiments, the self-ablating nanoparticles exhibited better intestinal uptake and bioavailability.

Summary: This study elucidated the detailed absorption mechanisms from LBFs with different compositions, revealing that lipid-based formulations may affect drug dissolution and absorption during digestion. Through in vitro studies and rat experiments, it was found that different types of lipid-based formulations have varying impacts on the oral absorption of ritonavir.

Summary: In this study, simulated gastrointestinal digestion (SD) and absorption (SA) models were used to evaluate the bioaccessibility and changes in peptides and amino acids of yak bone collagen hydrolysates (YBCH) for the first time. The results showed that most peptides in the YBCH resisted gastrointestinal digestion and absorption. Additionally, seven bioactive peptides with various bioactivities were identified.

Summary: Oral administration of omega-3 PUFAs leads to increased luminal omega-3 PUFA concentrations and changes to the microbiome in the ileum of individuals with a temporary ileostomy. There is large variability in ileal microbiome over time and between individuals, with no consistent change associated with acute omega-3 PUFA dosing.

Summary: 3-n-butylphthalide (NBP), a naturally sourced compound widely used in China for ischemic stroke (IS) treatment, has limited clinical application due to its oily nature and lack of active brain targeting ability. However, a prodrug compound (DB1) derived from NBP showed significantly enhanced pharmacological effects via intravenous injection. This study investigated the biopharmaceutical properties and pharmacodynamics of DB1 via oral administration, indicating its potential for clinical IS treatment.
