Context. Magnetic fields pervade in the interstellar medium (ISM) and are believed to be important in the process of star formation, yet probing magnetic fields in star formation regions is challenging. Aims. We propose a new method to use Faraday rotation measurements in small-scale star forming regions to find the direction and magnitude of the component of magnetic field along the line of sight. We test the proposed method in four relatively nearby regions of Orion A, Orion B, Perseus, and California. Methods. We use rotation measure data from the literature. We adopt a simple approach based on relative measurements to estimate the rotation measure due to the molecular clouds over the Galactic contribution. We then use a chemical evolution code along with extinction maps of each cloud to find the electron column density of the molecular cloud at the position of each rotation measure data point. Combining the rotation measures produced by the molecular clouds and the electron column density, we calculate the line-of-sight magnetic field strength and direction. Results. In California and Orion A, we find clear evidence that the magnetic fields at one side of these filamentary structures are pointing towards us and are pointing away from us at the other side. Even though the magnetic fields in Perseus might seem to suggest the same behavior, not enough data points are available to draw such conclusions. In Orion B, as well, there are not enough data points available to detect such behavior. This magnetic field reversal is consistent with a helical magnetic field morphology. In the vicinity of available Zeeman measurements in OMC-1, OMC-B, and the dark cloud Barnard 1, we find magnetic field values of -23 +/- 38 mu G, -129 +/- 28 mu G, and 32 +/- 101 mu G, respectively, which are in agreement with the Zeeman measurements.

Summary: ALMA Band 7 polarization observations of the OMC-1 region of the Orion molecular clouds showed that the polarization pattern was influenced by the radiation field of the high-mass protostar Orion Source I. The optically thick disc of the protostar likely caused polarization from dust self-scattering, revealing a concentric geometry around Source I. The extreme luminosity of Source I may cause grains to precess around the radiation anisotropy vector, supporting the emission from the Source I outflow cavity wall.

Summary: Sensitive dust continuum polarization observations at 850 μm in the B213 region of Taurus were obtained using POL-2 on SCUBA-2 at the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope as part of the B-fields in Star-forming Region Observations (BISTRO) survey. The observations allowed for probing of the magnetic field (B-field) at high spatial resolution in two protostellar cores (K04166 and K04169) and one prestellar core (Miz-8b) within the B213 filament, revealing distinct mean B-field orientations for each core.

Summary: Faraday rotation serves as a valuable indicator of magnetic fields in the interstellar medium, and the catalog of rotation measures derived from the Canadian Galactic Plane Survey provides crucial observations for Galactic magnetic field studies. This new catalog covers a wide region of the Galactic plane, significantly increasing the measurement density with rotation measures for numerous sources, most of which have not been previously measured.

Summary: The survey of polarized radio emission in the Northern sky provides insights into the significant magnetic field in the Galactic interstellar medium and its effects on the polarized emission. Two-component Magnetic Field along the Line of Sight to the Perseus Molecular Cloud: Contribution of the Foreground Taurus Molecular Cloud

Summary: Optical stellar polarimetry in the Perseus molecular cloud direction reveals a mixed bimodal distribution of position angles across the cloud, which can be traced to two different dust clouds along the line of sight. Gaia trigonometric distances to the stars show that one component primarily traces the Perseus molecular cloud at a distance of 300 pc, while the other component traces a foreground cloud at a distance of 150 pc, identified as the outer edge of the Taurus molecular cloud. Between the two molecular clouds, a lower-density ellipsoidal dust cavity is identified, located at specific coordinates and associated with the Per OB2 association.

Summary: In this paper, a new application of the Davis-Chandrasekhar-Fermi method is suggested to estimate the distribution of magnetic field strengths in the OMC-1 region as part of the JCMT BISTRO survey. The study shows that the magnetic field strengths in the region vary from 0.8 to 26.4 mG, with a mean value of about 6 mG, and there are large uncertainties in the inferred field strengths. The central parts of the BN-KL and South (S) clumps are found to be magnetically supercritical, while the outer parts of the region are magnetically subcritical.

Summary: Researchers have used 850 μm polarimetric observations to reveal the magnetic field morphology of the Serpens Main molecular cloud. They found that the magnetic fields are parallel to filaments in low-density regions, while they are perpendicular to filaments in high-density regions. Additionally, the magnetic field orientations change back to being perpendicular to density gradients in certain density ranges.

Summary: We study the polarization patterns and magnetic field morphologies associated with Hii regions in the NGC 6334 molecular cloud. We find that in some bubbles, the gas and magnetic field lines have been pushed away from the bubble, resulting in an almost tangential magnetic field morphology. However, in the densest part of NGC 6334, where the magnetic field morphology is similar to an hourglass, the polarization observations do not show any impact from Hii regions. We also identify nested radial polarization patterns in a bubble to the south of NGC 6334, corresponding to the previously observed bipolar structure.
