Summary: This study conducted a prospective cohort study of liver transplants performed in the institution for the first six years. Various strategies were used, including balanced general anesthesia, fluid restriction, thromboelastometry, and others. The fast-track group had a significantly lower 30-day readmission rate compared to the non-fast-track group.

Summary: This systematic review aimed to evaluate the impact of enhanced recovery pathways on patient-reported outcomes after abdominal surgery. The study found that enhanced recovery pathways may have a positive impact on patients' overall health status and symptom experience, but the data were primarily derived from low-quality trials.

Summary: This narrative review summarizes the establishment of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) pathways in radical cystectomy (RC), with a focus on the role of nursing. The review discusses the current status of implementation and adherence to ERAS protocols in RC and the impact on primary outcomes. Nursing has been at the forefront of ERAS and plays a crucial role in supporting patients throughout their recovery journey. Implementation of ERAS has shown reduced hospitalization and improved patient care, but more research is needed to identify factors that can further reduce post-operative complications.

Summary: This study aimed to compare perioperative costs and morbidity between open and robotic sacrocolpopexy after implementation of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) pathway. The results showed that the average cost of robotic surgery was $3239 higher compared with open sacrocolpopexy, and there were no significant differences in intraoperative complications, postoperative complications, or readmissions between the two groups. The percentage of patients dismissed on postoperative day 1 was significantly higher in the robotic group.

Summary: This study aimed to review the influence of enhanced rehabilitation on outcomes of pelvic organ prolapse surgery. The findings showed no significant difference in operating time, complications, blood loss, and pain scores before and after the adoption of the enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) program. However, there was a noticeable decrease in intravenous intakes, opioid administration, length of stay, and overall hospital costs with the adoption of ERAS. Patients were also able to mobilize more rapidly and reported higher satisfaction levels.

Summary: The acoustic restoration approach focuses on the applied utility of soundscapes in restoration, recognizing their ecological and social values. Broadcasting soundscapes in disturbed areas can speed up the recolonization of animals and microbes, while long duration recordings provide valuable data for benchmarking restoration initiatives and engaging the audience.

Summary: Comparing perioperative outcomes of patients undergoing radical cystectomy followed by Fast Track (FT) protocol or standard management, it was found that FT group had shorter time to defecation, hospital stay, and lower readmission rates, with a higher achievement rate of the Trifecta.

Summary: This study compared the effects of erector spinae fascial plane block (ESPB) and thoracic epidural analgesia (TEA) in open hepatopancreaticobiliary (HPB) surgery. The results showed that ESPB patients had lower rates of postoperative hypotension, did not require patient-controlled analgesia, and had promising outcomes in enhancing postoperative recovery parameters and minimizing opioid administration compared to TEA.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the safety and feasibility of fast-track discharge for patients undergoing nonelective laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC). The results showed that fast-track nonelective LC had comparable postoperative complication rates to elective LC, indicating that it can be safely used in select patients.

Summary: This study investigated patient-perceived barriers towards nutrition, mobilization, and early discharge after major emergency abdominal surgery. The main barriers identified were food aversion for nutrition, fatigue for mobilization, and a variety of factors for early discharge. Fatigue was consistently a significant barrier across different aspects of recovery.

Summary: The study found no significant difference in overall survival (OS) between radical surgery (RS) and local resection (LR) for localized parathyroid carcinoma patients, suggesting that LR is an effective initial surgical approach. Future high-powered studies are necessary to assess the effects of surgical approaches on morbidity and oncologic outcomes.

Summary: Primary appendiceal peritoneal surface malignancies are rare, and management is often based on retrospective studies and institutional experiences rather than prospective clinical trial data. Complete surgical debulking is typically the best option for long-term survival. Landmark articles play a key role in guiding the management of these malignancies.
