Summary: This study investigated the radiological and clinical outcomes of using hook plate fixation in Neer type II distal clavicle fractures. The medium-term patient-reported outcomes were satisfactory, but one in five patients experienced complications and required revision surgery.

Summary: The study showed that identifying and protecting the supraclavicular nerves during clavicle ORIF significantly reduces numbness, but does not affect patient-reported functional outcomes.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of treatment for endometrial cancer on pelvic functional outcomes and sexual function in patients, and found correlations between pathological features and patient-reported outcomes. Patients expressed a clear need for attention to these outcomes during treatment.

Summary: Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) are critical tools in hip preservation research. Legacy hip outcome scores have been developed to evaluate hip-specific function after surgery, but there has been a recent trend in using the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS). However, based on the evidence in the literature, PROMIS is unlikely to be superior to legacy PROMs in evaluating hip function and quantifying meaningful changes in function.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of pain catastrophizing in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) and its relationship with preoperative and postoperative self-reported outcomes. The study found that pain catastrophizing was associated with lower self-reported scores, but patients experienced improvement in health after surgery.

Summary: The study compared the biomechanical utility of shape-memory reconstructions and traditional constructs in clavicle repair. Results showed that shape-memory staples had inadequate stiffness in bending and torsion tests, but outperformed conventional plates in cyclic torsional tests. Additionally, synthetic models and cadaveric specimens had limited capacity in simulating fragility fractures.

Summary: This study found strong correlations between PROMIS instruments and SMFA/SF-36, with shorter survey completion time for PROMIS. Age and race affected survey completion time, while education level had no significant impact.

Summary: This paper provides an overview of the development, validation, and use of patient-reported outcomes (PROs) in orthopaedic research, along with practical guidelines for researchers and reviewers. It discusses considerations for conceptual framework, validity, reliability, factor analysis, and measurement of change using the Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome score (KOOS) as an example. The advantages of instruments developed based on item response theory and statistical analyses for PRO data collection are also described.

Summary: Patients with fifth metatarsal fractures in Zones 2 and 3 were treated with intramedullary fixation, following guidelines from a previous study. Larger screws than the commonly used 4.5mm screw were found to have satisfactory outcomes. Females had slightly worse preoperative and postoperative PROMIS scores and higher complication rates compared to males. Patients with complications, higher arched feet, or greater metatarsus adductus angles experienced worse functional outcomes after surgery.

Summary: The study aimed to identify differences in treatment approaches between adult and pediatric hospitals for isolated, displaced midshaft clavicle fractures in adolescents aged 15-18. Factors associated with surgical treatment in this age group were also examined. Results revealed that superior-inferior fracture displacement, dominant upper extremity injury, and treatment at an adult hospital were independently associated with surgical treatment for adolescent patients with displaced midshaft clavicle fractures.

Summary: This study assessed the long-term patient-reported and clinical outcomes in patients with lateral clavicle fractures. The results showed that non-displaced fractures should be treated nonoperatively with good functional outcomes and high union rates. For displaced fractures, there were no significant differences between nonoperative and operative treatment in terms of functional outcome and patient-reported outcomes.

Summary: Collecting quality of life measurements for LVAD patients can be challenging. This study found that PROMIS is a robust data collection system that can be implemented in a clinical setting, allowing for better patient-centered care and addressing quality of life limitations imposed by LVAD support.

Summary: The study evaluates the publication trends and usage of PROMIS in hip preservation literature. It also examines the correlation between PROMIS and legacy patient-reported outcomes. The results show an increasing usage of PROMIS in recent years and a moderate to strong correlation with traditional outcome measurements.

Summary: A 12-year-old Caucasian boy suffered a displaced, segmental left clavicle fracture after falling from a zip line. He was treated conservatively and achieved a good outcome with no limitations in shoulder function after one year. Though there are no established guidelines for surgical treatment of segmental clavicle fractures in adolescents, this case demonstrates successful conservative therapy.
