Summary: A novel hemostatic hybrid hydrogel comprised of hyaluronic acid and polyethylene glycol stabilized by thiourea-catechol coupling and disulfide bonds is reported for endoscopic hemostasis in upper GI hemorrhage. The hybrid hydrogels exhibit enhanced mechanical properties and good blood clotting ability, showing promising results in both rat and pig models. The sustained hemostatic function of the hybrid hydrogels make them a potential candidate for clinical applications in endoscopic hemostasis.

Summary: This study describes the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB) outcomes in the Toronto area in Canada. The results show that patients with UGIB during the pandemic were less likely to receive endoscopy, but this did not affect mortality or other clinical outcomes.

Summary: A simple prediction score called the CHAMPS score has been developed to predict in-hospital mortality in patients with upper gastrointestinal bleeding. This study aims to evaluate the usefulness of the CHAMPS score in predicting in-hospital mortality in patients with lower gastrointestinal bleeding (LGIB). The CHAMPS score showed good performance, with a higher area under the curve (AUC) compared to existing scores, in predicting in-hospital mortality in LGIB patients.

Summary: This study, based on the query of the National Inpatient Sample database, found that the prevalence of GIH in PH patients is increasing annually, with factors such as age and congestive heart failure being associated with its occurrence. Endoscopic interventions in PH patients with GIH help to reduce length of stay and in-hospital mortality.

Summary: Upper gastrointestinal bleeding is a major cause of clinical deterioration globally. This study investigated the diagnostic value of multi-detector computed tomography (MDCT) for suspected cases. The findings suggest that MDCT has limited accuracy in certain aspects when it comes to identifying the status and etiology of UGIB.

Summary: Several studies have shown differences in oral and intestinal microbiota in patients with cirrhosis. This study analyzed the gastric mucosal microbiota of cirrhotic patients and controls, finding significantly lower H. pylori infection rates in cirrhotic patients. The non-H. pylori gastric microbiota showed heterogeneity and associations with clinical characteristics, with differences observed in composition and function among different clusters.

Summary: This study in Italy found no significant 'weekend effect' in patients with acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding (AUGIB), indicating that there is no difference in clinical outcomes for patients admitted during weekends or weekdays. The study also showed that the Italian hospital network is efficient and able to provide adequate care and effective therapeutic endoscopy even during weekends.
